There was a thread about this recently

I had an abdominal hysterectomy for huge fibroids. Big scar, hip bone to hip bone & another vertical.

I was walking 2 days after the operation, doing everthing else in a week if very slowly (not driving though).

Madambetty - thank you that is encouraging! I'm hoping to be up and about quickly, I'm scheduled for laparoscopic surgery. Hope your recovery went well x

I had an abdominal hysterectomy, also for fibroids. I had what was considered a good recovery but even then I was in hospital for 4 days, my sister stayed with me for a week to help out, I didn't hoover for 4 weeks (even though I was advised to wait 6 weeks for such heavy tasks) and as I have an active job I was off for 3 months on GPs recommendation. You should be taking things very very easy OP, don't rush your recovery.

I’m having an abdominal hysterectomy nxt week and would like to hear others advice who have been through this. I live in the countryside and it takes an hour to get to a supermarket. When will I be comfortable sitting in a car (not driving) how long does it take before I will be feeling up to resuming normal household chores as I have four children at home and don’t want to have to rely on help to keep the house in order. Will I be very tired and what did other people find made life easier.

I had total abdominal hysterectomy plus cervix out. It really wasn't as bad as I expected. Was walking around the ward slot on day 2. The worst part for me was having those metal staples removed on day 5. You will feel tired so just take it easy. I didn't lift the kettle for w weeks but drove after 5 weeks. 12 weeks off work because of the nature of my work. Best thing I ever Did! Good luck.

I had an abdominal removal of fibroids, though not a hysterectomy, so had a huge surgical scar but little internal scarring and it was a while before I felt strong enough to do a lot of stuff. I think with laparoscopic surgery it will be easy to forget that internally you will still be healing. Listen to the post operative advice your hospital gives you , there are always those who have climbed Snowden in a snowstorm while clutching their just stitched scars but you need to be aware of what your body needs. I don't think you need to take to your day bed for a month, but it probably isn't the time to repaper the hallway.

i was worried about bumping into things(irrational but there you go) and when being driven in a car I had a pillow to put over my belly underneath the seat belt!

Yes yes to the cushion under the seatbelt. I had forgotten about that
