So guys I started with thrush around jan time, it was worse just after periods but seemed to be worse some days than others, every time I try caneston it will go for about two weeks then return 😩😩 I've had alll the swabs dome for everything inc chlamydia etc but it all came back with thrush, occasionally when me and my DH have sex he gets a little sore on occasions, it's causing me to burn after sometimes, don't get me wrong it's been worse than what it has been, but it's something I have never struggled with but wanted to know if anyone else has struggled with presistent thrush? The doctors today have just gave me a single dose of flucanazole which I'm praying to god will shift it, any ideas sorry for TMI but just want hellllllpppp before I drag my self o the carpet 😂

Are you on decent probiotics? Capsules of >20 billion, not stuff like actimel.

Loudloopy · 01/09/2018 00:34

No should I try them? What's your recommendations ? I have to be honest I have quite a high sugar diet and doing my research it contributes quite a bit, I did have blood tests to rule out diabetes, I'm not over weight or anything I'm 8st, but it's just driving me mad now 😭😭😭

Has your husband treated himself too? It sounds like he could be passing it back to you. My dog has treated himself with the cream before to stop this very same problem!

timetodance · 01/09/2018 01:11

Omg.. DH not dog!! (Sorry it's late🙈)

Sorry you are in so much discomfort.
In my experience stress, pregnancy, allergies, high sugar diet, if you are run down, not eating properly, perfumed soaps/washing powder and antibiotics are all triggers.
My pregnancy, years ago, triggered a repeat bout of thrush and I was unable to shift it for months. Like you, I went on the repeat course of pessaries, using one every three days for a period of time, took fluconazole, made adjustments to my diet/life as above and got my partner at the time treated. I still eat sugary foods, I am just more mindful of how much of it I eat and not eat it before bed. My thrush did eventually go away, I still suffer from it but only once or twice a year.
Hope this helps and you find a solution. x

What sanitary protection do you use? I had thrush regularly, although not continuously, until I figured out that the sanpro was making it worse. It went away during pregnancy, & came back when my periods did. Scented products, ones with odour reducing chemicals, the little crystals or gels in etc, are the worst. Completely unscented, natural fibres are much better, for example these ones are supposed to be quite good. It might not fix the problem, but it's worth a try.

And yy to suggestions to reduce sugar in your diet. That also helped me.

I had it for years, tried everything but it kept coming back. Then I split from my husband and it went completely! Guess he must be been carrying it but was too stubborn to be tested.

OlennasWimple · 01/09/2018 15:49

Natural yogurt? Eat it and use it as a pessary

HermioneWeasley · 01/09/2018 15:50

Your Dh definitely needs treating too

Try a broader spectrum anti fungal from your GP

I had it for months and eating geek yoghurt daily made a difference

chickhonhoneybabe · 01/09/2018 15:58

Google thrush diet, and ask your doctor for a course of tablets rather than single dose of it doesn’t go. Tablets are the only thing that works for me.

kingofthemountains · 01/09/2018 16:29

I had thrush almost constantly for about 6 months. Changing my diet was the thing that made the most difference - no dairy (I eat goats cheese which seems to be OK) and try and regulate my yeast intake - so sugar/alcohol. These days it's an occasional thing

MsForestier · 01/09/2018 16:33

I had constant thrush at one stage. Turned out to be an allergy to canestan cream. The skin would get very sore and the thrush would instantly come back.

As a result I can only use the oral treatment and a special antifungal steroid cream.

I also have to avoid hot baths, even with just plain water as the heat is enough to bring on thrush. I can only wear tights if I cut a hole in the gusset for ventilation and only unscented pads.

Withington · 01/09/2018 16:38

As others have said, is your husband also taking canesten/anti thrush (not just cream). When you get it you both need to get treated and not do the deed until at least a few days after it's gone otherwise you're just passing it back and forth!

nhssecretary · 01/09/2018 16:48

Don't let him ejaculate in you
No oral sex
No spit for lubrication

Use fem fresh in the shower
Balance activ gel

I promise it will work

nhssecretary · 01/09/2018 16:49

Haha @ the dog comment

GenericHamster · 01/09/2018 16:59

Husband needs treating. Cream doesn't work for everyone. Single dose flucanazole good but if you get it often then some docs will give you multiple doses - eg one every three days x 3. You need to go back to your doctor and state how persistent/awful it is.

Tiink · 06/09/2018 12:06

My doctor gave me a 3 month course for thrush last year. I had a vaginal pessary once a week and a oral capsule once a week. Go back to GP and ask for longer treatment

meddie · 06/09/2018 12:10

your partner needs to use the cream for a good few weeks. even if he doesnt appear to have symptoms. I had same thing. was almost a monthly occurence, drove me nuts. He swore blind he was using the cream. It disappeared when we split up

17birds · 06/09/2018 12:10

I was plagued by thrush until a doctor recommended using dermol cream to wash and epaderm sparingly as a moisturiser. I think I was just very sensitive down below and the thrush was secondary to this
