Is it normal - Period symptoms like a labour

Is this normal or should I see a GP? I am having what feels like full on contractions before every period begins. It is just so painful I can't move when it happens. Do other people get this? I've always had painful periods but none that feel like full on contractions. I wondered if may be a miscarriage?

My periods were emotional but physically fine for 8 years, then painful for 2 years, then horrendous pain thereafter until I had children. (although the emotional side disappeared and insomnia came with every period in middle age). So mine have always changed over time. It had nothing to do with m/c.

GPs can prescribe very strong painkillers. Is your surgery open on Saturdays? Some are. Or get some prescription painkillers in for next time.

Get it checked out. I had horribly painful periods that felt like labour and got worse with every period, I was passing out and being sick from the pain! It turned out I had stuff left over from labour that had got infected! It might not be that exactly but could be Pelvic Inflammatory Disease or something else. Don't be fobbed off by a GP who says "here are pain killers it's just how some women have to live" which is what GPs kept saying to me. Good luck OP Flowers

It is worth seeing your Dr , particularly if you have had a recent change.

I've always had this. To be honest I went through an induced labour thinking what's all the fuss about as it wasn't much worse than my normal period pains each month. So it's not always a sign there's something wrong.

Get it checked to be safe I have always had this suffer with polycystic ovaries and endometriosis but still blessed with my two angels. It's very hard and exhausting and painkillers don't always take the edge off I really feel for you get checked by the gp they can support you with what you are going thru. My second pregnancy I just bled the whole way my son was born happy and healthy at 37 weeks really thought I would lose him and the pain was awful I was very lucky. Hot water bottles and hot baths give relief and help good luck xx

Thank you all of you who replied. I really appreciate you taking the time to reply, that's kind. It's very useful to know others experience this too.
You were all a lot more useful than the GP.
"Take paracetamol" 😟 as though THAT option would never have occurred to me in a million years!

Would seek out another GP and request a referral to a gynae. Do not be fobbed off with just being told to take pills. Something is causing this and it is certainly in your interests to find out what it is.

If you have always had painful periods it may be that endometriosis is the root cause.
