Black mark on vagina

Hi,

I am new to this website so I'm sorry if this is all wrong but I was wanting to seek some advice.

I have a black mark on my vagina. It's been there for a while but I kind of forgot about it until recently. It's only noticeable when the labia is pulled apart. It's flat, causes no pain or discomfort and is about 1cm wide I would say. My partner is saying that it's not something to worry about but I can't help but fear that it's cancer.

Has anyone experienced anything similar?

Thank you in advance.

Hi DKim: I can't tell you what it is I'm afraid, but I think a trip to your gp might be the best plan. Or a GUM clinic? It seems to me that you're worried and until you get it checked, you may well continue to worry. It will probably niggle away at you.
I've recently been diagnosed with a pre-cancer of the vulva. I hasten to add mine was a white patch so I'm not suggesting you have that! However I put off doing anything for over a year. Shame, embarrassment, fear - lots of reasons for putting it off. With hindsight all I did was increase my fear and anxiety. Drs were great and if it had been something and nothing I would have been delighted and relieved. They would much prefer people go to get checked out. Either way, I reckon it's a win. Best of luck Smile

Also, check out some websites. Eve appeal for example. They recommend if there's anything different looking or feeling on your vulva or vagina, then get it checked.

Unless your partner is a dermatologist or a gynaecologist, then his/her opinion is unhelpful.
It's bothering you and therefore you need to get it looked at by a doctor. Until you do so, you will worry about it.
It's unlikely to be anything sinister, but if it is, the sooner it's seen to, the better for you.
Please get it checked out.

Went to the doctors yesterday and they have refered me on fast track to a dermatologist (the fast-track part worried me because she must be concerned). Hopefully things will be okay as me and my partner are trying to conceive and I'd hate for anything to get in the way of it. Thank you for all of your messages.

Hopefully it's nothing serious, they're probably just being cautious. My dd was fast tracked similarly because the gp had no clue about a mark on her leg but it was nothing.

After reading this I feel I should be paying more attention. I wouldn't have a clue what was growing in mine!

I had a vulva biopsy recently and I’m still waiting for the results. I had a small patch of lichen schlerosus, which can increase the risk of vulva cancer. It was a little painful/uncomfortable but healed quickly. The dermatologist prescribed a steroid cream but recommended I carefully monitor any changes to the skin on my vulva.

The fast track isn’t anything to worry about - the vast majority of fast track referrals end up negative for cancer.
