DD (age 16) having odd spells of fainting and sickness

DD is 16 and for a while now has had occasions when she's fainted, most recent was last Saturday at work. Not sure if the 2 are linked, but she's also waking up in the morning and being sick, just bile. The sickness feeling goes as quickly as it comes, so its not virus/bug related.

She's not pregnant, have spoken to the GP, she's had a blood test to rule out anemia, and bloods were normal. I've checked her blood pressure this morning and it was quite low, going to check it every day to get an average though.

We're seeing the GP next week, but just wondering if anyone else's teen has had anything similar. Am trying to cover all bases before the GP appointment to see what else we can rule out as to the cause. She's vegetarian, but still eating fish, going to start a multivitamin as a precaution.

I had this as a teenager. Mostly in the heat. No cause was ever found. Low blood pressure runs in our family though and combined with being tall that may have contributed to the faintness. Feeling ill in the morning-I think 8 am just not a morning person. If I try to eat/exercise first thing I get sick. I think it may be related to hormones as well because this would mostly happen just before or during my period.

DS had something similar for above 6-8 months - the only thing they could find for definite was low vitamin D. Was this checked? However, I think it may have also been stress related.

I had very low BP as a teenager (still have low BP now in my 40s). It made me quite ill at times and I used to faint. I also found it very hard to get up in the morning. I was lucky enough to live on the continent, where they treat it. Her symptoms sound very similar to mine.

racecardriver, it does seem to be cyclical, so could be hormone related.

blueberries, not sure about vitamin d, I'll get a fuller run down of the blood test results from the GP next week

She does get very stressed, suffers with anxiety, has just been through GCSE's, but the sickness thing has happened for years, the fainting is more recent.

I had this as a teenager too. I went to the GP but they didn’t find a cause, but I don’t think they could really be bothered to - when blood tests came back fine they gave me some anti sickness tablets (that I stopped taking because they just made me fall asleep) and told me it was a phase all teenagers went through. Hmm It just stopped happening in my early 20s.

paap, I've been thinking low blood pressure, symptoms of hypotension seem to match DD, her bp was 90/59 this morning, so borderline low.

Keep taking the BP. Mine was about 90/50 all my teenage years although it was once registered as 65/45, which the doctor checked about 3 times then said "no wonder you don't feel well!".

I'm sure hormones had an influence too.

If it is "just" her BP, then she'll probably just have to learn to recognise it and work around it. It should pass as she gets older though.

yes, will keep taking it and work out an average bp reading for her. She's concerned obviously, but just wants to sort it out, she was really embarrassed fainting at work, huge bruise on her arm where she caught herself.

I had this as a teenager was due to hormone fluctuations in my cycle. Settled once I was on my pill in my twenties. Now pregnant all my symptoms are exaggerated ..still being sick and feeling faint/dizzy when I am 35 weeks. The GP said it was because my body produces too many hormones
