I realise that this may sound odd but does anyone know why I feel like the contents of my bottom are going to fall out when I exercise? Blush

I'm 50 and fairly fit, healthy weight, exercise regularly etc, good muscles, but have a stage 1 rectocel and I'm wondering if it's just that or something else. I was diagnosed 10 years ago and I don't think it's progressed but still, when I exercise, especially aerobically, I feel as if I've got a rounders ball up my bum and it's trying to drop out if that makes sense. I've noticed it more these last few years and sometimes it's worse than others. Sometimes I need to pee half way through my workout too due to feeling suddenly 'full' but at other times its fine.

My core and pelvic floor are fine mostly but sometimes they just feel like they almost fail.

any idea?

I've never been pregnant or given birth so no delivery damage or anything like that.

As you have a rectocele, maybe it happens when you are a bit constipated, as the poo can become stuck in the bit that protrudes into you vagina IYSWIM.
I stopped jumping a while ago now. It’s possible to exercise aerobically without jumping. After the menopause everything becomes a little more lax. I used to do tuck jumps, jacks etc but now I just do low impact options.

Ah, I hadn't thought of 'the trap.' Good thinking. That's why it would only happen sometimes and not at other times I expect. I wondered if it was going to be one of those things where everyone says 'oh yes, that's part of getting older' but thank god it's not. I don't fancy losing control of my bowels or bladder just yet.

Do you mind me asking what you do now instead of jumping?

I do step classes, spinning, swim, Pilates etc. I also walk a lot.
I take Laxido every other day and that keeps poo soft and helps move it through.
I was told by my gynaecologist that my very active lifestyle, including running, had not done me any favours post menopause.
Just unlucky I suppose, but I had very big babies, so that didn’t help.

If you feel you are about to lose control of your bowels or bladder, that shows your pelvic floor isn't fine. Sorry!

What you are feeling is the bulge of your rectocele. You need to stop all the jumping and start doing Kegels- 30 a day ( 3 sets of 10) Look at the websites of physios Michelle Kenway & Elaine Miller (Gussie Grips.)

I have had an extensive repair post deliveries. I started gentle jogging years later, felt bulgy as you describe but from the front walls not the back and was told by a gynae and physio NO high impact exercise EVER. no jumps, no running, no weights (unless light like 2kgs), no sit ups, and a whole load of other exercises that damage women's pelvic floors.

Shock that’s shocking!

Ive always been active and thought I was doing myself a favour. Apparently not! How is it possible that the human body is so badly equiped to cope with exercise and pooing? I havent even had children but my insides are ruined (and have been since the age of 35).

Thanks for the Laxido recommendation and the gussie gripes suggestion (great name). God its shit isnt it.

My surgeon just said i was very unlucky and from looking at family medical history i had a pre-existing disposition to this type of thing.
