Abnormal smear.

Hi. I'm completely new to this, I was hoping I would be able to talk to someone who's been through this. I'll start from the beginning. 4 years ago I gave birth to my little boy, I never had any problems before my birth, but after my birth I've had nothing but problems with my stomach, it took me months of visits to my doctors to finally be told I have ibs. I've been on different tablets which none have ever worked, I've been on antibiotics more times than I can even count (for water infections) which is still on going now. A few weeks ago I received a appointment for my first smear (I'm only 24) so I went got that over with which was pretty painful while she was doing it, I also bled pretty bad after. I received my results in post and was told I was high grade severe dyskaryosis. I received a appointment with my results (next Monday) for removal of my cells. Has anyone had this treatment done? I'm absolutely terrified. I've stupidly googled this treatment and it's not helped at all. I don't know anyone who's been through this. No one in my family have ever had abnormal smears & needed this treatment done. So is all completely new to me.

I had this a few years ago I think I was probably about your age. The worst bit was the worry before hand. Take someone with you to pass the time before your appointment and to drive you home. The procedure wasn't painful, afterwards was like period pain. Just rest up if you can and take pain killers.

I had lletz treatment done at 26. Getting it done was uncomfortable and afterwards was a bit tender, like a period pain as a previous poster said.
I think it's the thought and stress of getting it done is the worst part of it.
My smear tests have all come back as normal since the treatment so that outweighs everything else now!

Thank you. I'm just so scared, the build up to it is draining. Can I ask what actually happens? & will I still be able to go about my days has normal after? xx

From what I remember i was given a local anesthetic while they performed the lletz. I think that is done using laser.
Afterwards for me there was a bit of bleeding and cramp like feelings it that area. I was given pain killers for that evening and the next day. I relaxed that evening as there was discomfort.
I took a couple of days off just for my own well-being (mentally more so than physically as i was worried).
In hindsight it was in no way as bad as I had feared.

My sister had LLETZ on 11th July.

She said it was painless, and her fear beforehand was (whilst understandable) way out of proportion.

She looked after both her under 3 boys the next day with little problems.

Thank you. I definitely feel more at ease about it now. I feel so physically drained by all the worry and stress. I was so convinced my smear results would be normal has I didn't receive your letter for a round 4/5 weeks after my test. xx
