Hi Ladies

I have been suffering from very heavy and painful periods for a few years now. My GP sent me for an Ultrasound and I have Fibroids and I am waiting on a Gynaecology Appointment.

I wondered if anyone had experienced similar and what the outcome was. My main question is will I get a hysterectomy, I have had my children and didn't plan anymore anyway and I was sterilised after the birth of my youngest.

My periods are killing me, the pain, the heaviness of them and my PMS is getting worse by the month. I'm experiencing constant feelings of rage and depression for 2 weeks of the month and I cant continue to live like this!

I would welcome any advice please. Thanks in Advance.

I was given the Mirena coil which helped me with painful periods. It did do the job and I never had any emotional or physical problem with it as I know that some have. I am now post menopause and for a few years have experienced unexpected flooding. (The coil worked its way out!).
Went to Dr and all I've had are injections (hormones) to stop the floods. I have a fibroid the size of a grapefruit.
I still bleed.

I thought it would end in a hysterectomy, but apparently the NHS are pretty reluctant to offer it now,or so I read.
I am not in any pain whatsoever and I feel fine, but the sudden flood can be a nuisance.

I don't know what's going to happen to me.

Same thing happened to my sister and she was given a hysterectomy, but that was a while ago.

I had a sub-total hysterectomy in February (kept my cervix). So far so good. I had it for various reasons - very bad PMT which was getting worse (I’m 50), heavy periods, peri-meno symptoms and progesterone intolerance which meant I couldn’t have estrogen patches without some progesterone as estrogen without progesterone is a no no. So, I tried all sorts of other things for about a year before taking the plunge. I had it done laparoscipally and about a month off. 6 months on and estrogen patches I’m finally feeling level. Two kids, working, house, shopping, cleaning, decorating the list goes on and I’m sure many on here are as busy or busier than me - now I feel up to it all. Good luck. X
