PSA Cervical Screening

Not a boast or goady in the slightest, just a quick note to say that I've just come home from my second ever cervical screening/smear test. I haven't had one since I was 20 (live in Wales, law regarding age altered last year) and I'm now 25.

I want to remind/encourage everyone that it is the quickest few seconds out of your life, I even had to check with the nurse that she was finished! And managed to squeeze in a browse around Asda before having to be home

Yes, it can be embarrassing getting your junk out in front of a stranger, but try to think about how many lady parts the Nurse has already seen that day/week it's probably just like opening up yet another Word document for us office workers .

I know everybody differs but I find any discomfort, of which for me personally there was minimal, just the same as when you initially try to stick a tampon in and it's a bit wonky Grin

Granted, I think I'm extremely lucky to have such a bloody lovely Nurse at my local surgery. Not that I was nervous, but if I was she would have definitely taken my mind off it by reeling through a hundred topics a minute from Love Island to collecting coffee cups Grin I know some people have apprehensions for their own personal or medical reasons, but this post is more directed to those who just don't go to their cervical screenings because they're embarrassed or worried that it may hurt.

93% of cervical cancers are preventable with cervical screenings being the top method of early detection and thus cervical cancer prevention. Please don't risk your health and your life for what takes approximately 5 minutes (time from walking into to walking out of the treatment room today) out of your day!

Given negative results each time and the ages of 25 to 49 being called every 3 years and 50 to 64 being called every 5 years, that's around 12 cervical screenings in your entire life which at 5 minutes each = ONE HOUR OUT OF YOUR ENTIRE LIFE. *

Do the right thing ladies. Do it for yourselves. Do it for your partner. Do it for your kids. Do it for your family. Christ, even do it for your dog Grin Make that appointment as soon as the letter lands on your mat so you have no time to talk yourself out of it.

Please, have your cervical screening done to make sure, heaven forbid, that you're still around and healthy to get called for your next one! Thanks

Thanks so much for your PSA.
Cervical screening is so important.

I was wondering whether this forum has an opinion on the debate going on in Feminist Talk, about using a term like "anyone with a cervix" instead of the word "woman" in raising awareness of screening.
