Bladder Stuff

Not interested in talking to the media. Hence new post.

2 kids. Nearly 50. On HRT. But.....

Can't run. Walk after a big drink. Bounce. Jump. Dance. Etc.

Tried all the gadgets. Some use with the internal probe types. Bought the Innova after a Mumsnet trial. Good but not great.

But saw a thing in a magazine.

Bought it. Expensive. Sort of plastic bullet thing www.uresta.uk which you insert and it supports your bladder from the inside.

Really good so far. Can do all the above (not tried bouncing but....)

Anyone else used it? Apparently NHS might be moving to supply them.

Mumsnet test would be good. Popular in Canada and I can see why.

A bit like a plastic tampax that you wear all day.

Thoughts? Any medical types?

Sorry but are you advertising this or asking for help? I'm genuinely confused.

LineRunners · 11/06/2018 19:32

But that plug would have to sit right down at one's urethral opening!

QueenoftheNights · 11/06/2018 19:34

Okay, looked at the advert. It's not a cure, it's a support device. You get the same effect as if you used a tampon but without the drying effect or possible infections from using a tampon when no period.

When women have surgery, the surgery lifts the bladder neck into the right place so the leaks don't happen. Have you thought of asking for a referral to discuss this?

Or...have you done pelvic floor exercises (3 sets of 10 a day ) for 6 months to see if that works? Have a look at the Youtube videos of Elaine Miller (women's physio) aka Gussie Grips.

Sorry. Not advertising it. Was on my phone and trying to be concise.

I have bought the gadget and am trying it out. It is expensive and seems to work but I wanted opinions on the idea of it. I read a lot about it but, as others, am aware of hype.

Have tried everything else on offer so thought I would give this a go.

Am I bad enough for surgery? Have been using pads but can be fine for some time but summer (heat, drink a lot) or coughs etc cause problems.

I also am in Scotland with all the tape / mesh scandals.

Have a friend whose sister had it fixed privately by operation. Anyone gone this?

Bloody phone. *done this.

I had surgery privately. It was for bladder prolapse. No mesh.
You need to see your GP then a physio or/and gynae for assessment. You might get improvement with Kegels done properly ( there is no evidence that pelvic toners or weights used give any better results than kegels.)

The device you linked to is really a temporary fix or for women who are unfit / too old to have surgery - it's not a solution - but imo it could be used while waiting for surgery or improvement through exercise. Using it could make you 'lazy' and not actually try to do the exercises or seek help.

Thanks. I had thought I would give it a try and it is good. But, I can see what you are saying.

Is surgery on the NHS? Does it work?

Yes of course you can have surgery on the NHS. If you are leaking and it's affecting your life but you may have to wait and they will ask you to try exercise first /as well. Yes it works but all surgery carries a risk and it depends on how bad it is, how good the surgeon is and your own body. Go and see a urogynae first and get advice!

So, went to the Dr and have a referral. To a consultant and, I think, women's physio. Thanks to those who offered help.
