Hi all, with the heatwave this weekend please can you put some water out in shallow bowls so the animals, birds and insects can get a drink.

Keep refilling so the water doesn't go bad.

If you have a pond, make sure escape routes are in place.

Thank you!

I was watching a great tit having a bath in one of my bird baths on the ground when a cat came out of nowhere (in my sight line) and grabbed it in its mouth and ran off, looking over its shoulder at me as I yelled out and banged on the window. It was so quick, I really hope the bird knew nothing about it and was killed instantly.

I know it's what cats do but to be watching a perfect wee bird enjoying a bath being wiped out in an instant was shocking. I hope if it had young in a nest the other parent is able to manage.

I have put boulders round the bath with gaps for hedgehogs in the hope that it will make such quick access for cats less easy.

Oh that’s horrid @InveterateBigot I hope the new measures in place make it harder for the cats to grab something.

I’ve made a beebath - shallow plate with pebbles etc set on an upturned flower pot, but nothing yet. Any tips as to how I can tempt some insects?

Bees love lavender, weigela, cotoneaster and honeysuckle in my garden.

There are many pollinator friendly plants, ask at your local garden centre if you don't fancy the above suggestions.

Thank you @Willow12345 , I haven't seen a single bird using the bath since I made it safer. Perhaps safer to me isn't to them. The boulders are a couple of inches from the edge of the bath, I'll try moving them back a bit today and see if that makes a difference.

I have some cat mint that attracts bees. They then fly over to the bird bath that I’ve put some pebbles in.

its always a good idea to keep your bird bathing areas in a higher place. I’ve got one on top of the bin storage unit. The cat couldn’t get up there fast enough even if she wanted to.

Most of mine are high up @Overtheatlantic but there are a couple of ground ones for those that prefer them and non-flyers.
