Anyone else planning to participate in this between 23-25 January? Thought it might be good to share what we see. It's just recording what you see in your garden during one hour during that time period.

I may actually do it in my own garden and then pop to my Dad's to do it there too.

I've given up...... No birds here and we are usually a very birdy garden!

With regards to numbers though, I thought you only noted the maximum number if birds you spot at any one time rather than the total you see over the hour?? I see on social media people are getting very confused by this.

I’ve given up too. Not a single bird yesterday or today when I tried. We at least usually have some pigeons wandering around but even they didn’t put in an appearance. I think the birds around here must have decided that they will not be counted!

@HostaCentral you’re right. It’s the maximum number of birds you see at any point, not the total, or you could be recording the same robin 30 times.

@RainbowZebraWarrior

I need one of these in my garden!

Love it!

Would you share the link?

Thank you!

It's from B&M. £6

Those with zero results, please still log them. They are still important to the data collection.

Thank you.

I also got nothing at my Dad's yesterday - very weird.

Thanks all, see you next year 😁

A nil here too, only a pigeon flew over.

RainbowZebraWarrior · 27/01/2026 13:41

It was a nil here also. Of course, yesterday, just before dusk, I had a Robin on my new feeder, a pair of blackbirds underneath and a wren in the mixed hedge. They will all be hiding again today with this crazy wind and rain.

BadgernTheGarden · 27/01/2026 13:44

We usually have loads of birds but they all disappear when we do the bird count. Got a few but missing various ones that are always around.

kinkytoes · 20/02/2026 07:20

Reminder - only a couple more days to log your results if you haven't already 🐦
