How to create a DIY wildlife pond

I would like to add a smallish shallow pond to my garden for the benefit of wildlife. I wouldn’t put fish in it.

I'm thinking a fibreglass liner would make thinks easier. I'll be doing it myself so would appreciate some really simple instructions as to how to do it. All guidance appreciated

I’m no expert but at school, we dug a hole. Used a fibreglass liner, as you said, put large pebbles in the bottom, filled with rain water from the water butt, then put plants in it, from the garden centre.

We did introduce tadpoles so have seen a few frogs and the dragonflies love it.

There's a couple of brilliant threads on ponds in the gardening section @SuzZume .
I'm on a coach at the mo otherwise I'd go find them for you, they are definitely worth reading. 🐸

We did this. Used a liner, let it fill with rainwater off the shed roof by diverting it via an old piece of drainpipe. We put a few random plants in and added some larger stones to allow wildlife to get out easily.

That was in September, the following February we had frogs mating and heaps of spawn.

Since then we've had masses of wildlife, including dragon and damsel flies, newts and all sorts of birds calling for a drink.

Good luck. It's hard work initially (depending how big), but so worth it.
