Ladybirds everywhere

I've just been into my garden and there are loads of ladybirds, I must have seen about a dozen all flying about at the same time.

Anyone else noticed anything?

No but then I haven't been in your garden.

NeedthatFridayfeeling · 11/07/2025 20:19

Yes same here but not sure whether ladybugs or asian lady beetles

beccahamlet · 11/07/2025 20:20

Yes. Lots in ours.

Handstanding · 11/07/2025 20:20

there are a lot of ladybirds at the moment I agree; is it because it’s so dry?

Theunamedcat · 11/07/2025 20:21

Yes we are seeing a surge in ladybirds its been ideal conditions for them this year

EssentialDecluttering · 11/07/2025 20:21

Lots here too and loads of larvae still on leaves but I'm worried they are dead because of the heat.

Theraffarian · 11/07/2025 20:22

Went to our local beach yesterday and it was covered in them and so many hover-flies , never seen so many . Think it was the second day of them , and much depleted after the lunchtime high tide .

TenderChicken · 11/07/2025 20:23

I was listening to a gardening podcast earlier, talking about how it had been a good year weather-wise for the aphids, but that lady bird populations were starting to catch up with this abundance of food!

AllrightNowBaby · 11/07/2025 20:23

Such good news, it’s years since I’ve seen lots of ladybirds but when I was a child it was a common occurrence.
It must be this warm weather we have had since April, a couple of days ago I saw at least twenty butterfly’s of different sorts on some brambles, lots or bees and other pollinators as well.
Made me happy!!

😆

@Yamadori No more ladybirds than usual in my garden, but LOADS of butterflies. The most I have seen for about 7 years. We have lots of flowers and big flowering bushes, but this past few years they have been on the decline...

Not this year. I think the very warm/hot/dry summer and the No Mow May and rewilding people have been taking part in, has helped the wildlife/insects.

It's GLORIOUS to see. 100s and 100s and 100s of gorgeous butterflies! 😍

WobblyLondoner · 11/07/2025 20:27

Same in London. Ladybirds actually stopped play at Lords yesterday (ignore the hyperbole in the link name - ladybirds “attack”!!!!)

Noticing lots of white butterflies everywhere yes, and lots of bees, my lavender has been buzzing this evening.

We've got loads this evening too. We're in Surrey.

Maybe it's a slightly more glamorous Flying Ant Day.

BloodyHumans · 11/07/2025 20:30

I haven’t seen any yet this year, but I’ve seen lots of red admiral butterflies (which I haven’t seen around for a few years).

EmpressaurusKitty · 11/07/2025 20:31

I’ve just seen a ladybird on my balcony crawling over the valerian, & there was a butterfly earlier.

There were hordes of meadow brown butterflies on my walk the other week - I’ve never seen so many.

MissMarplesNiece · 11/07/2025 20:35

Lots more butterflies here than there were last year. It's so lovely to see them.

Arran2024 · 11/07/2025 20:44

Did you know that the heatwave of 1976 was also accompanied by hordes of ladybirds? We were in Southport in a towing caravan - we woke up to find the van completely covered. Maybe similar will happen this year?

GhostsJulianforPrimeMinister · 11/07/2025 20:53

Yes loads of ladybirds and white butterflies out

CrackSpackle · 11/07/2025 20:54

Yes tons and tons of ladybirds in my garden this summer!!

PickledMuffin · 11/07/2025 20:57

Bring them my way, i need them to eat all the aphids!

TheAutumnCrow · 11/07/2025 21:00

You can feed ladybirds with honey & nutritional yeast mix-up, or squashed strawberries, and give them wet cloths in a shady spot.

Anyone else tried it?

Yes, I remember that.

I've noticed a lot of 14-spot ladybirds this year too, the chequerboard black and cream ones. No Harlequins though, thank goodness.

I'm really happy to report loads more ladybirds, bees, cabbage whites and red admirals in my garden this year. I have a lot of lavender, wild sage and sweet peas that seem to be attracting them, far more than last year

kinkytoes · 11/07/2025 22:23

This honestly brings me so much joy!

Insects are finally hitting back. I hope it's a sign of things to come 🤞

VegQueen · 11/07/2025 22:25

Yes I’ve noticed a lot the last few days around my office
