Can we talk about my fox family please?

Well they’re not actually mine, they live in a garden at the back of me, which is all but abandoned and very overgrown. They’re not disturbed.
The last 2 years they’ve raised a family of cubs, which have been a complete joy. The cubs often played on our lawn and jumped over our garden furniture and I know several neighbours fed them.
There have been adults in the garden all winter, and I fully expected more cubs this year, but it seems not.
Does anyone know if this is common? That a seemingly healthy group of adults (there’s at least 3) don’t breed every year?

Yes would expect cubs by now. When did you last see the group? Are the adults definitely still there?

I saw baby foxes in a car park in London in July once. We were absolutely baffled because they were really teeny. I can't think what they were doing in a car park.

Big one is the Dad, slim one is Limpy. She’s amazing. Totally lost the use of her front leg, almost three years ago. She was in a bad way and suffering from mange and an infection but we managed to treat her as she so reliably comes to the window almost every day, so with the help of a charity we got medication into food and look at her now! She’s raised 3 litters of cubs and is the most gentle sweet girl.
The family unit is supported by a couple of ‘aunties’ and we’ve seen 2 little cubs recently.

They do regulate their own numbers very well (which is another reason why culling is so cruel and unnecessary) so it might be possible they’ve skipped it this year.

We have foxes also and as DH has insomnia he has developed a very good relationship with them. He has FF (Favourite Fox) and Little Miss Black Paws. They are the parents. We have had them for years and the past few years they have produced fewer cubs and last year none at all. There are aunties as well who support the breeding pair. FF disappeared for a bit and we were quite worried but then he returned with a broken tail.

Oh and yes like a PP DH worms them annually and defleas them. They both take food out of his hand so he puts a worming pill in cheese. We asked our vet first what the best kind of worm pill would be.

I just saw a big, bright bold fox strolling across my lawn this evening. There were the bloody and mangled remains of a rabbit there, too. I rarely see foxes, even although we live in a remote rural area. It was a very exciting sighting! (And yesterday I saw a hare running up the road on the way home)

Fab! We have foxes in the garden but only once in 15 years have I seen a fox cubs. We have a small wild/ sheltered area at the back and I think they lived under the ramshackle shed.

We've had a deer hanging out occasionally too.

Well, that's lovely all you lucky people with fox B&B, I'm envious. I’ve seen the odd fox around, but never in my garden. Thanks for the super photos.

They are def still there.. I see them most days when the suns out lying in the warm if I peep over the fence.

Here’s Limpy again, and last year’s kits who are both still on the family unit, happily. I just love her! She’s so relaxed to just sunbathe under the window. My son is 3 and helps with them too, we fill up their water together and he stands and chats to them at the window. When he was a newborn I used to ‘show’ the foxes my baby when they brought round theirs 🥰

I live on a farm and we have foxes too. We have a rather large cat who was caught play fighting with a fox cub a couple of years ago. It was baffling but also lovely to watch. They rolled around for a good 20 minutes.
An adult fox was in my garden “screaming” at my cat in late winter. My cat jumped on the wall and the cat also jumped on the wall and continued to scream in his face. Cat just sat there. Fox scurried off down the field when he seen us.
We have livestock and luckily never seem to have problems with foxes taking lambs or anything like that. Husband also likes the wildlife.

I have foxes at the back of my garden. I have only ever known of a litter of cubs once, but they don’t come into our garden visibly that much.

I don’t feed them as they seem pretty healthy but my neighbour does. I always leave out rain water.
