This is a new thread to chat about all things nature.

Birds, bees, other flora and fauna. Noctilucent clouds, the Aurora Borealis. The sky is (literally) the limit.

Welcome!

I know it's been very hot and dry and we need the rain , but please can somebody turn the rain off between 11.30pm and 12.30 am or I am going to get washed into the canal on my way home from work .
It's absolutely chucking it down here !

The weather map on the met office app shows blobs of rain moving pretty fast from west to east so hopefully you’ll be able to dodge home between them.

I think I had my own pet storm cloud last night , it followed me all the way home and got me very wet 💦💦

The rain keeps dodging us. Horses fields are like deserts. We had about 5 minutes in total of very, very light rain yesterday in 3 lots.

If it was in anyway possible I would send my per storm cloud over to you.
Hopefully you will get your own very soon.
I know what it's like to have a dust bowl instead of a field full of lush grass , I have been there with horses too.
It may not be practical for you but when we were sure it wasn't going to rain we covered part of the padock with black plastic, the type used to wrap silage .
This creates condensation over night , then in the morning fold back the plastic to allow the sun to do its thing .
Keep it covered for 4/5 days and nights to start with. If you are absolutely sure it's not going to rain.
This give the grass a chance to rest and reset. It will look a bit pale when you 1st uncover it but it should spring back to life in a day or too
And yes it's a pain in the arse to do but it worked for us on a small scale area.

Luckily it's a big field and we are just giving them a little bit extra each day. Last year we only got 3/4 of the way across. This year we are nearly at the same point already. It will recover eventually going to take a bit of time. Hoping for a mild winter but not as wet as the last one. It's been the worst of both wet and dry since September last year.

Maybe you’ve become a rain god, like the lorry driver in one of Douglas Adam’s books
