The Interpration of Murder - worth reading?

I have got about a third of the way through this and am a bit disappointed and wondering if I can be bothered to carry on. Should I put it in the charity shop bag or persevere? It's OK but I was expecting it to be more gripping or something.

I'm afraid I thought it was rubbish, so I wouldn't bother.

maresedotes · 22/06/2010 11:54

I had to read it because it was 'nominated' at my book group. I didn't like it - from what I remember I found it hard to care about any of the characters. Always a bad sign......

bigstripeytiger · 22/06/2010 11:55

I thought it wasnt great. Might be worth reading once, seeing as you have already bought it and started on it. Or maybe not.

GooseyLoosey · 22/06/2010 12:01

didn't really do it for me either I'm afraid. It certainly doesn't get any better.

Species8472 · 22/06/2010 12:42

Hmm, thanks! It had so many glowing reviews and the premise sounded interesting. Oh dear. I'm tempted to just jump to the end to find out who the murderer is.

I can't even remember [yawn].

I quite enjoyed the second half even though I'd made a good guess of how things would end. It took me months to get through the first half though!

No, it is pants. I was very disappointed given the reviews that it had.

He must have very influential friends.

Species8472 · 23/06/2010 08:50

Have decided to plough on, as currently have nothing else to read whilst bf DD in the morning.

I really wouldn't bother...it's boring...and it just gets more so

CoteDAzur · 23/06/2010 20:42

It was ok but not great. Read on, by all means.

If you like thought-provoking murder mysteries, I recommend:

Child 44
The Skull Mantra

Thanks CoteDAzur, will have a look at those

I thought it was rather poorly written - I agree he must have influential friends.

YoginiPinkBikini · 24/06/2010 19:12

Didn't enjoy it at all

LutyensCBA · 24/06/2010 19:14

Like others, I was hugely underwhelmed by it. The end did come as a surprise, but the rest of the book was plodding and tedious.

Can I recommend Arthur and George by Julian Barnes. I absolutely loved it, and it has so many layers to it!

Species8472 · 26/06/2010 10:04

Well, I nearly finished it, but actually couldn't quite be bothered to read the last 20 pages...stupid story. Very unlike me not to finish a book. Will be taking it straight to the charity shop.
