Wolf Hall, then The Year of the Flood (Margaret Atwood's latest). Which prompted me to re-read Oryx & Crake.

I just lost myself in them and found myself turning them over in my mind in between reading stints.

Now reading DH Lawrence's Sons & Lovers which I'm enjoying but it's not grabbed me in the same way.

Would love some suggestions for my long-haul flight later this week....

The Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox by Maggie O'Farrell. It's my favourite novel of all time.

I actually misplaced my copy in a house move. Thanks to your fabulous thread I'll be buying it at the station before a long train journey in the morning!

BecauseImWorthIt · 09/06/2010 20:48

Have just started Wolf Hall, but worried I might lose the plot a bit - history not my forte, and I'm having to concentrate very hard to keep track of the characters.

But, very well written and easy/engaging style, so I'm hopeful ...

MrsDanversBites · 09/06/2010 20:49

I have Alone in Berlin on my list to read too. Have read a couple of William Boyds but didn't rate them....

For an easy read I enjoyed Molly Fox's Birthday

bunjies · 09/06/2010 21:06

Thanks Alaska. Have just ordered Agent Zigzag for dh's fathers day pressie.

Would also recommend Beyond Black by Hilary Mantel. In fact any of the books in this collection especially We Were the Mulvaneys by Joyce Carol Oates.

This was also a set of fascinating non-fiction titles. I don't usually read nf but found these enthralling.

DastardlyandSmugly · 09/06/2010 21:33

My fave book is actually East of Eden by John Steinbeck. Amazing book based on the Cain and Abel story.

elsiepiddock · 09/06/2010 21:46

I'm just reading shopping centre book, as I'm now going to call it!

OP, if you're an Atwood fan ,have you read Kasuo Ishiguro - Never Let Me Go? I loved it.

Have also just read Meg Rosoff's How I Live Now, which I read soley to assess suitability for DS1 (11), it's a great read.

AlaskaNebraska · 09/06/2010 21:46
