True Blood: read the books first, or watch the series?

I just bought the True Blood series (very cheap) on Book People, and was planning to read them, but now I see that series 1 is on BT Vision On Demand.
Which should I do first? And why?

I really didnt fancy the series at all but I saw on Amazon that the books were really recommended and bought the set of books from Book People. I couldnt put them down and literally read them one after another!

I seem to be in the minority though as im a massive Bill fan. I guess the Eric fans are waiting with baited breath for the next series LOL I did hope to see the whole Eric in the Lycra trousers thing as that was a particularly amusing episode in the book.

ive finished all the books and the 10th installment is out soon and ive watched both series 1 and 2 the 3rd isnt out til mid june and i'm stuck in limbo lol missing it soo much.
i would recommend reading them all first then watch the series so much imagination in the books and so much sex in the series so ya get the best of both worlds lol lol

The books are a bit lightweight perhaps but they're still enjoyable reading, if rather different in tone to the (darker, sexier) tv series.

Love Eric. A lot. In books and on TV.
