HelloThisIsJoanie · 01/02/2010 10:08

the story took so long to get going etc

Yes it felt like someone had taken the other two books, mashed them together and come up with something not very coherent

almostreal · 01/02/2010 22:44

Yes! I was beginning to worry I was the only one who thought this.
From what I read he died just after it was handed to his publisher, maybe he still had revisions/editing to do?

There just wasn't enough of Lisbeth in this book for my liking.

Heathcliffscathy · 01/02/2010 22:47

now remind me...hornets nest is the sex trafficking plot?

BecauseImWorthIt · 01/02/2010 22:49

You do have to persevere - I had exactly the same thing with the name confusion, but then suddenly it all clicked into place and I was gripped.

But a bit too much stuff on the history of Swedish government - I felt like I was reading a text book at times. It needed some sharper editing.

MarionCole · 01/02/2010 22:51

It didn't add anything new, just seemed to rehash the plot of the previous two. Too much of Erika Berger too, I don't like that woman.

almostreal · 01/02/2010 22:58

I agree I really didn't like Erika at all.
TBF I did like ending, I felt it was fairly realistic but there was an awful lot of waffling.

Sophable yes thats the sex traffic one.

MattBellamysMuse · 01/02/2010 23:02

But you don't get the conclusion to book two if you don't read book three. To be fair, all three took a while to get going but they're all worth persevering with.

almostreal · 01/02/2010 23:06

Matt thats very true, IMO you need to read all 3 to get a clear picture of the 2nd book.

I've found this site interesting
www.stieglarsson.com/Millennium-series
especially the part about the 4th book, would love to know what his overall vision was, maybe someday it will be published.

MattBellamysMuse · 01/02/2010 23:22

Such a shame he never got the write all 10. I would have loved another one after Hornet's Nest.

BecauseImWorthIt · 02/02/2010 09:00

Did you get that deck working, btw?

MattBellamysMuse · 02/02/2010 09:51

Hi, yes I did, thanks. But it's a hell of a faff just recording one song, isn't it? Especially when the record skips and you've got to go back and take out all the dodgy bits.
I'm sure it will get easier with practice though.

Heathcliffscathy · 02/02/2010 14:37

what's wrong with erika???

fishie · 02/02/2010 15:01

i read it in bed wtih cocoa. press on, you can't give up now!

i expect the other 7 will get written a la virginia andrews.

almostreal · 02/02/2010 15:56

Fishie Virgina Andrews , you lost me?
It's been said that his DP was a big influence on the writing, it's possible she might be able to give an outline of what might have been.

Erika I dunno just didn't warm to her.

TheElephant · 02/02/2010 15:58

well i aint reading it
tlel me what happens

EccentricaGallumbits · 02/02/2010 16:02

I enjoyed it. couldn't putit down. press on and you'll get engrossed.

fishie · 02/02/2010 22:29

i liked the insight into what is ok in swedish culture (teenage sex, drugs, getting pissed, casual racism) and what is not (they are right po faced about politics)

almostreal v andrews a thorough account for you.

almostreal · 03/02/2010 22:32

Bloody hell had no idea she was dead I keep seeing current books of hers!!! Quite glad I never bought one of them.

vjg13 · 06/02/2010 20:24

I really enjoyed it. I do find it annoying that he has to sleep with all the women though.

frosti1981 · 07/02/2010 12:37

Isn't it great that we are all different. I really enjoyed book three. I know it was a bit more "spy" based than the other two but I thought it brought everything together. In fact I have suggested that my son reads book three first. I agree, I'm not to keen on Erika, I find her a little too aggressive in getting her own needs met. Perhaps I'm just jealous.

Carrotfly · 07/02/2010 12:43

I think I've been put off this now.

I enjoyed 1, but found 2 was a bit.... unrealistic

Is coffee drinking still prolific in 3 ?

porcamiseria · 18/02/2010 13:19

I have not read it yet, b ut enhoyed 1na d 2. I dont like Erica B either, selfish and a two timer, not a character females would typically like, love Lisbeth though

MattBellamysMuse · 19/02/2010 23:16

Carrotfly, yes, much coffee drinking
Frosti, reading book 3 first would be hugely confusing. It ties up everything that happened in books 1&2. Your son won't have a clue what's going on!
