Hello

Just wondering what MNetters recommendations are for life changing/self-help style book, just books that have really galvanised you to change bad habits, whether it is housework, career, anxiety, interested in anything really.

I have 'What do I do when I want to do everything?' on my bedside table, waiting to be read when I have finished crocheting some gloves and reading the new DAn Brown . I also got DH to get me a 2nd hand copy of 7 Habits of Highly Effective People to helop me get organised at work.

Just wondering if anyone else had any recommendations for these sort of books that actually helped?

A month ago I read Overcoming Anger and Irritability by Dr William Davies and I can honestly say I've had the happiest, most chilled out four weeks of my adult life. I can definitely recommend it to anyone who's losing their rag regularly, or goes round feeling grizzly most of the time.

Any more helpful book recommendations to share?

I am a self-help book connaisseur! I love the idea that a book will change my life...

Despite my extensive library of books, only a couple have really "talked" to me - the first is 'Feel the fear and do it anyway'.

I hadn't really thought myself as 'fearful' but was aware of a growing "conflict" in my mind when it come to making decisions. I wonder if the fear is linked to my becoming a parent - so much more to be fearful about!!So I'd need to decide about x, but instead of just doing it I'd think about a, b, c and d and thus not do anything.

The book's message is simple - you just have to do it (like the title says) but reading it really helped me.

I also like the Covey's 7 Habits. He recommended a 'to do' list system, which I have been using each week. It encourages you to think of the things you have to do with each part of your life so 'mummy', 'work', 'friend', 'wife' etc. If you read it and decide that you like him, he is doing a seminar in the UK - www.gxevents.com/covey/index.php

I always order 2nd hand from amazon to keep the cost down, I have always been really impressed with the quality of the books I have received.

Happy self-help reading!
