Does anyone have a Sony e-reader, who can advise me?

I've bought DH one for Christmas. He has a journey of 1hr+ each way on the tube every day, and likes to read, so it seems ideal.

But I'm panicking a bit about the kind of books that he can buy to read - he's not a popular fiction/Dan Brown kind of reader.

Are there lots of 'good' titles available? And how do we go about buying/downloading them? I thought I might try and download a couple to add as his Christmas present but I'm not sure how to do that/if it's possible?

An example of the authors he has on his list:

Alan Furst
Neil Gaiman
Peter Ackroyd
Robert Fisk

There are more and more books avalible and not just new books, I've noticed a lot of older ficition and Non fiction being put on recently.

Places I go are:
Most classic can be found free online at project Gutenberg.
Waterstones online, Loads of Peter Ackroyd and Neil Gaiman
WHSmith Ebooks online a pretty big selection
I also use this American site too:

That's brilliant - Waterstones' staff gave me the impression that it was only through their site that we could access titles.

thanks very much!

Glad to be of help, there are many more websites, although I've only ever used those 4, that you should be able to get ebooks from as long as they are published in Epub and PDF format.
