I really liked it. It was a tad unrealistic at times but I couldn't put it down.
Have to admit I'm a bit in love with Jackson Brodie too!
Anyone read any of her others and are they any good?

i adore jackson brodie and was bereft when i finished when will there be good news. have reread the first one and am waiting for the second to come back to library.

didn't like behind the scenes or emotionally weird half as much. probably lack of jackson.

really enjoyed it, read it far too quickly though so am incapable of detailed discussion (I do this all the time with fab books, must go back and read them in a more considered way)

kimlouiseb · 04/12/2009 22:08

Hmmm. Who could play Jackson Brodie?

Clive Owen?
Daniel Craig?
Sean Bean?
Christopher Eccleston??

None of them are quite right - I can't rest now till I have decided!!

Anyone else have any suggestions?

I read this recently and enjoyed it, but agree that the ending was poor. I am finding that quite common with books at the moment!

sfxmum · 04/12/2009 22:29

Michael Fassbender

or Jason Isaacs
just because I would watch both doing what ever

yes I know not typical pretty boy

SixtyFootDoll · 05/12/2009 00:22

Isaacs is about the closest..
Philip Glennister would have been gppd but for Gene Hunt...

SixtyFootDoll · 05/12/2009 00:25

i imagine someone a little overweight but with a twinkle in his eye...

kimlouiseb · 05/12/2009 09:45

Yes I was thinking Phillip Glenister too, when he was a bit younger maybe.

I thought this was pretty rubbish and very 'scooby do' with the plot.

Blu · 05/12/2009 18:53

Neal Pearson, before he got fat, should play Brodie.

I love everything Kate Atkinson has written. I come back to her books again and again.

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 06/12/2009 11:09

Yeah if you like the style but not the whodunnit craziness, her short stories "Not The End Of The World" are excellent.

While we're here, can anyone recommend another author Kate Atkinson lovers might like? I haven't read a good book for ages.

WoTmania · 06/12/2009 11:16

Jane Gardam?

kittya · 09/12/2009 20:06

I read it on holiday and loved it. I was so thrilled when I looked in the reception of the apartments and found One Good Turn so I read that on the plane. You are right that they could easily be turned into a tv series, I wonder who would play him? Ive just started Behind the Scenes and I was abit shocked about how different it is but I am thoroughly enjoying it.

elkiedee · 10/12/2009 01:01

Elephants, Jane Gardam sounds like a good suggestion. I don't know if you'd like Esther Freud, but she also writes about rather eccentric families.

TwoIfBySea · 13/12/2009 19:07

It was good but a little too unrealistic in the amount of coincidences going on.

Prefered One Good Turn but haven't read Case Histories yet.

I think Clive Owen for Brodie would be an excellent idea!
