because i was! i had a feeling it was building up to something bad due to the nature of the book, but the actual awful thing came out the blue for me and the first sentence of the last chapter just shocked me to the core.

i have been thinking about this book constantly since i read it. i now want to see the film

the minute I read the back of the book and the picture on the front i knew how it would end exactly and down to the detail - thought it was very very very predictable indeed - heartbreakingly so but no surprises there for me

Both DDs (10 and 12 at the time)and I read it and saw the film.WOnderful, heart wrenching book seen through

I kind of knew that it had a shocking ending thanks to MIL who says things like " I won't tell you what it's about but the end was was ever so sad and really shocking." !!!!

But the DDs (who knew enough about WWII to know what it was about) were very shocked.

Beautifully written book- I loved it and the film was quite good.

We read the book then saw the film. Dd has been to Auschwitz today with school, despite loads of preparation she has still got off the plane tonight traumatized by it.
