aristo I haven't read any of Picoult's because I would rather pull my toe nails out with pliers than read any Mis(ery)Lit.

Normally about abused and/or dying/deprived/murdered children. From what I have heard she doesn't shy away from scenes of graphic child abuse and I can't think of anything I would like to read less than that.

Mislit does seem to appeal to a lot of women tho and is a growing genre, but I have no idea why.

Flamesparrow · 18/07/2009 18:49

I have the actual title in my phone Janeite - you mentioned it on another thread. Or someone did...

aristocat · 18/07/2009 18:50

Mmm - not sure all Jodie Picoult's stuff is MisLit. I read a couple to start with. She writes reasonably well and obviously researches her stuff thoroughly - and picks unusual/involving topics - but then manages to spoil the whole thing by being so formulaic.

Read two and you know exactly how she's going to handle any of her others.

Flamesparrow · 18/07/2009 18:53

I wouldn't have put Picoult in the category of mislit

janeite · 18/07/2009 18:53

Ahh was it the man born as an old man thing? God - what was it called? It was brill! Max something.

Flamesparrow · 18/07/2009 18:54

lol yes that one!

BeastQuest · 18/07/2009 18:56

I saw one about a high school massacre.
gave up after two chapters who wants impending doom and misery on holiday?!

Flamesparrow · 18/07/2009 18:58

Lol yes so they aren't exactly chirpy, but not mislit either iyswim. I think of mislit as "My daddy abused me for some wine gums" type books

MmeDanversAMangeMonIpod · 18/07/2009 19:06

That's what I think of Mislit FlameSparrow, think I have her muddled in my mind with the likes of 'If I should die before I wake' or 'please daddy no'

Serves me right for judging a book by its cover..ignore me aristo

aristocat · 18/07/2009 19:08

janeite · 18/07/2009 19:25

Jodie P isn't mislit, she is shite-lit - tis a different genre.

YES! I have been looking in every book shop and for some reason can't find it anywhere.

i could always ask but that would just be sensible...

janeite · 18/07/2009 19:57

I got it in the library - might be worth a shot?

Flamesparrow · 18/07/2009 19:59

I'm heading there on Weds so will look then

EachPeachPearMum · 18/07/2009 20:03

H lib?

janeite · 18/07/2009 20:05

Yup - last month I think. Was there today though and they didn't have much at all to offer me. It all seemed rather John Grisham.

EachPeachPearMum · 18/07/2009 20:09
