I just wanted to say I have just finished this in practically one sitting. I can't believe I have not read it before - really recommended. I love Cassandra!

I recently read The Lost Art of Keeping Secrets by Eva Rice which was good but not in the same league IMO.

In that case, as I have been confusing it with something else, I may well return to it.

I just read this on holiday and while I loved a lot of it, I just didn't buy Simon as a fella to get excited about...I really wanted her to end up with the hunky yokel.

For something in the eccentric girlhoods in 1930s aristocratic settings (but a lot darker) I think you should read Nancy Mitford - Pursuit of Love /Love in a Cold Climate.

I fancied Stephen more than the yankie brothers too Belle.

Love the stepmother who takes her clothes off in thunderstorms.

Fabulous book.
