OP make sure you read the Kate Atkinson Jackson Brodie ones in order. There is another one called 'When will there be good news?' and a third featuring Jackson Brodie. Case Histories is one of them. Not sure which order though. They can stand alone but better in order. (I didn't read them on order..)

I read lots of crime fiction and the best I've come across is Harlan Coben. His books are real page-turners with lots of twists. They usually revolve around people who have gone missing in unusual circumstances.
