Ds1 read Stormbreaker and loved it, but gave up half way through Point Blanc

I'm reading Malorie Blackman atm - have you read them? Noughts and Crosses and Knife Edge?

Great to see children recommending books to teachers btw! On Friday I was delighted as two (yr4) girls skipped up to me in the playground. I'd lent one of them the new Michael Morpurgo book (Adolphus Tips), she'd read it and passed it to her friend, who'd read it as well. Apparently they can't wait to tell me their thoughts about it when I'm next in school on Monday morning!

Btw have I told you I've got an interview on Tuesday ... at a secondary school "Learning Supervisor" = glorified teaching assistant really. It's a pretty serious full-on whole day interview! Any hints or tips?! Watch this space!

Have you tried Silverfin by Charlie Higson? DS1 reading it and loving it! It's more action than AR. It's the young Bond!

DS loves Alex Rider

My DAD got him ArchAngel from book club and DS was the envy of whole class as it wasn't out in the shops

He has read each of them several times now and still is

He is in Class 5 too.

Oh yes yes read all those Noughts and Crosses books. They are great aren't they?

tiddlypom · 16/05/2005 22:27

There's an Alex Rider website now.

Sorry - ignore the first link I posted, doesn't work. Second one does though!

Bless these wonderful authors who can persuade boys to read! My son aged 9 loved Silverfin (wow, the movie or TV series is bound to be a massisve hit) and has now just started Storm Breaker. He read 90 pages in one night. It's so exciting to see him absorbed in a book.

Any recommendations for books for boys aged 7? My younger son (a pretty good reader) has read all Horrid Henry and Captain Underpants, got bored with Flat Stanley and dabbled unenthusiastically with Secret Seven. Problem is books with level of adventure and excitement he requires are too tricky for him to read. It was same with ds1: between 7 and 9 i couldn't find much to float his boat.

Barrington Stoke specialise in books for reluctant readers, which your ds obviously isn't, but take a look at their books anyway - they're very good IMO, my ds (11) likes them, as well as Alex Rider etc.

I should go to bed, I'm messing up all my posts

VP - Have you tried Jeremy Strong's books Personally I loathe them, but they're very much on a level with Horrid Henry and Captain Underpants.

A great book for a gripping easy read is Eoin Colfer's The Legend of Spud Murphy
