Need a bit of light relief - what book made you laugh out loud?

Another vote for PG Wodehouse - you've read Jeeves, but try the Psmith series. He was one of my (many) early literary crushes.

Another vote for David Sedaris and Mark Steel (Reasons to be Cheerful - although probably only funny if you're a leftie of a certain age).

Can't believe no-one has mentioned Diary of a Nobody or Lucky Jim yet!

I also laughed out loud at Julian Barnes' A Pedant in the Kitchen (probably only funny if you are a pedant though).

The Wrong Boy by Willy Russell also v good. And the Adrian Mole books, especially the most recent one.

Oh ... and Molesworth of course

Yes to The Wrong Boy. I may need to re-read it as I've forgotten most of it but I remember finding it great fun.

I think it's just me that's a bit meh about Bill Bryson

Stephanie Plum novels, start with One for the Money very funny and with added bonus of swoonsome Joe Morelli

Am reading Charlie Brooker's columns in book form and sniggering muchly on the tube.

Also Dan Rhodes' 'Gold' made me larf a lot, although it has sadder undertones.

Definitely P.G. Wodehouse, Mapp and Lucia, and Molesworth - also recommend 'Cold Comfort Farm' by Stella Gibbons and anything by Nancy Mitford -'The Blessing' is my favourite.

My most recent laugh out loud book was Slummy Mummy by Fionna Neill. The hairdresser was frightened to cut I was laughing so much.

Anybody out there, Marion Keyes, made me lol,not an easy feat

The last thing to have me in fits of hysterical laughter was Being Elizabeth Bennett - Create your own Jane Austen Adventure,by Emma Campbell Webster.It's basically a text adventure,and you pick a route thriugh Jane Austen's books,aiming to end up married to Darcy.Make the wrong decision and it all goes horribly and wittily wrong!
Also lots of the previous - Pratchett,Cold Comfort Farm,The Diary of a Provincial Lady...

E: A Novel made me laugh a lot, it may be a little dated by now though.

Just to say thanks to those who recommended Florence King. I read her last week and thought she was hysterical but also touching. Really brilliant. Have also bought the Janet Evanovich series, looking forward to ignoring DD and getting on with some serious chuckling.

Arabella Weir 'Does my Bum look Big in This' made me almost wet myself laughing! It's quite old, but very funny.

Toby young how to lose friends and alienate people made me and DH laugh out loud. Also Bill Bryson Neither here nor there and notes from a small island. Particularly if you have ever been to weston super mare.

Just in the middle of the tent, the bucket and me by Emma Kennedy and nearly peed myself on the train into work this morning trying not to laugh as sat next to a v stern looking banker type and didn't want to spray coffee over his Torygraph. Have also been irritaing DP by giggling in bed with it. Funniest thing I've read in years
