Probably been done before but I've just finished this book in two hours and automatically want to read it again.

I thought it was amazing - beautifully written and the first book this year I have actually enjoyed.

Anyone else read it? What did you think of it?

Yes, I loved it too. I read it very quickly some months ago, and I can't remember much about it now. I do remember that I thought it was beautifully written though.

Glad you enjoyed it too MrsM.

Must admit I did have to read the ending twice just to make sure I'd 'got it right'.

i sort of liked it and hated it in equal measure - i mean i liked it but it was over too quick (had to read it all in two sittings) and was a very inconclusive ending. but worth reading. but maybe not worth buying. and don't buy it for a long journey cause you'll finish it in an hour or two.

got about 20 pages in 2-3 months ago (actually I think it's longer ago ). Can't read it despite the wonderful style of storytelling...

Why pecanpie??

I didn't think the ending was inconclusive fluffles. Very conclusive the way Erica felt and made him feel brought about his own fate (can you tell I'm trying not to spoil here).

Agree it was far too short though.

I quite enjoyed it but read it very superficially so had to be told about the America/Erica bits and that the company was a metaphor (?) for something else - now can't remember what! The rest of my group considered it light weight - I thought it was interesting and easy to read, thus demonstrating my light weight credentials.

trixiethepixie · 21/04/2009 22:55

Got the whole Western America/Erica but must be a bit of a lightweight too as didn't think about the metaphor for the company. Was it capitalism since it was all about the money?

I've now remembered - the initials of the firm he works for are US - so presume it is a metaphor for US capitalism.

I didnt really enjoy it and certainly didnt pick up on the nuances about erica etc!! Found the ending abrupt and annoyingly equivocal.

pecanpie · 22/04/2009 11:23

I just didn't/couldn't get drawn into the story...
