Definitely, the Faraway Tree stories - just bought a hardback 3 in one special from WH Smiths for £4.99 - will be used for bedtime stories for dd - as she is only 6 months - I think I will have to wait.

I have just re-read th Little House on the Prarie books in the right order and they are still fantastic now. I remember being terrified by her description of a wolf that stood as tall as her as I was the same age!

Oh what a fantastic thread! I remember mty childhood books far better than anything I read now!
My list includes:
The Little House on the Prairie series too (have read them all about 50 times!)
Swallows and Amazons series
Carbonel by Barbara Sleigh (no longer seems to be in print but bought it secondhand for extortionate amount the other day so ds can read it)
Will think of more....

aaahh A Little Princess. I haven't thought of that in years.

ALso I used to have a book about fairies and trolls in woodland. I cannot remember what it was called, but I adored it.
