I loved it! It's quite disturbing in places, but really good. Great one for a book club. Hope you give it a go and enjoy it.

ClaudiaSchiffer · 13/02/2009 23:03

We read it for book group last year, it was great. It's bloody long which I found rather um, daunting to begin with but if you do have time to read it I'd deffo get stuck in as it's fab, and it's a really good book club book - lots to talk about and you'll feel really left out if you haven't read it

pipsqueak · 14/02/2009 17:00

EachPeachPearMum · 14/02/2009 17:06

I really loved this book, though it is a long time since I read it.

janeite · 14/02/2009 17:26

It's really good: although his first novel, "The Virgin Suicides" is even better imho.

BeckyBendyLegs · 14/02/2009 17:57

Totally loved this book. Couldn't put it down. Genius.

itwasCYTEENagewedding · 14/02/2009 18:01

It really grew on me - at first I wasn't so into the style, it seemed a bit like a family saga-style airport blockbuster dressed up in fancy clothes, but by the end I was won over. So much so that I'm using it as one of my dissertation texts if I ever get round to finishing the bloody thing.

LoveBuckets · 16/02/2009 20:46

Interesting book, still can't make up my mind if I liked it but it covered lots of interesting stuff eg Greece/Turkey history. Worth reading for that as it's not a subject that comes up much in British language novels.

nkf · 16/02/2009 20:47

I didn't finish it.

Orangesarenottheonlyfruit · 06/03/2009 13:50

I loved it! Despite picking it up thinking it was about somewhere near London... I love the writing style, reminds me on John Irving.

ramonaquimby · 06/03/2009 13:53

I am reading it now (not for a book club) am really really enjoying it - the narrator is a great storyteller and goes off on a lot of tangents, worth getting stuck into it.

littleoldme · 07/03/2009 22:46

It is a superbly written book and I loved it. My only criticism is that the middle section is about 50pages too long.

hester · 07/03/2009 22:47

It's a great book.

FfreckleFface · 07/03/2009 23:21

I loved it, Pipsqueak. You'll fly through it once you get into it.

EdwardCullensWife · 29/03/2009 20:42

Can anyone answer this (I may be being a bit thick here) but why is her brother called Chapter 11?

duckyfuzz · 29/03/2009 20:45

I really enjoyed it too, a great read, really engrossing

Jenbot · 03/04/2009 13:34

Really good. Worth reading!

HolidaysQueen · 03/04/2009 13:44

Def worth reading, although like janeite i preferred the virgin suicides.

FfreckleFface · 03/04/2009 14:03

ECW - I presumed (and this might be entirely wrong) that she refered to him as Chapter 11 because her case had been studied and written up, and the brother was discussed in Chapter 11.

That was my theory.

Did I read wrong, or is this Book of the Month next month.
