Brilliant digested read of her new book from the Guardian

Made me rofl.

Safe to say, I won't be buying the book.

Her success is a complete mystery to me. She is so misanthropic, so smug, so lacking in empathy towards the rest of humanity. Though to be fair, the rest of humanity is losing jobs and struggling to survive, while she is being paid to write drivel about a brief holiday in a country where she couldn't even be bothered to learn the language.

I am going to chat her up and bring her to a MN meet up.

Hilarious. Thanks for that.

Rachel Cusk is beyond ridiculous...

jujumaman · 12/02/2009 18:00

Not her mil, I'd have thought, now she's compared her to a minot functionary in a Shakespeare play

BonsoirAnna · 12/02/2009 18:44

She thinks she's better than everybody else on the planet and takes no pleasure in anything at all. Grrrrrrrrr.

LurkerOfTheUniverse · 12/02/2009 19:18

i wish i had read the digested read of The Northern Clemency before wasting 3 sodding weeks reading the real thing

jujumaman · 12/02/2009 20:20

Ooh, I will have to look northern clemency up, just finished it. Did you not like it, northern? I admit nothing much happened but I was still gently carried along ...

Oh God. I think the "palazzo near Arezzo" is where we went on holiday. They were far too lovely to have had to endure Rachel Cusk - it a very un-poncetastic place.

I do like John Crace.

TrulyMadBadandDeeply · 12/02/2009 20:54

I too chuckled when I read that in the Guardian.

And that account of her book group - gah! She must be so lonely, with nobody else able to reach her elevated levels of intelligence and understanding.

ScottishMummy · 12/02/2009 21:12

Ms Cusk?is she author who write the diatribe about other mums and baby groups?oft cited in guardian

TrulyMadBadandDeeply · 12/02/2009 21:16

That's the one. There was nobody in her mother and baby group who was her intellectual equal and expecting her to sing The Wheels On The Bus was a flagrant infringement of her human rights.

ScottishMummy · 12/02/2009 21:32

fortunately managed to avoid her megalomaniac twittering.oh the ignominy of spending tine with the other new mum dullards

KERALA1 · 12/02/2009 21:40

Thanks for the link that is so funny.

Read Arlington Park whilst in the throes of euphoria about finally being a mother to a gorgeous tiny baby and could not understand what she was on about. 2 years down the line still can't. And what is so wrong with Bristol?

She needs to drink some wine, eat some chocolate, cheer up and get over herself. What must the Italians think of her. Bewildered no doubt.

TrulyMadBadandDeeply · 12/02/2009 21:40

ScottishMummy - Indeed! It is so painful to be the only intellectually-vibrant woman amongst so many brain-dead mummies.

KERALA1 · 12/02/2009 21:43

Maybe she is friends with Rachel Cooke? (see other thread on dummy mummy diatribe in the the Observer)

ScottishMummy · 12/02/2009 21:48

read cooke's musing's found it trying too hard.another media generated stereotype to classify mums as a homogeneous mass

yummy mummy
slummy mumy
dummy mummy
i am who gives a shit mummy

NoIAmTheNewQueenofMN · 12/02/2009 22:14

who is this Rachel Cusk of whom you speak?

cherryblossoms · 13/02/2009 01:57

So glad I found this thread. Brilliant link. And it feels like a group of people sheltering from the Rachel Cusk drizzle.

Bizarrely, I've read at least three Rachel Cusk books, despite hating every, single one. I think I was searching for the mystery of why she is read.

Blessed if I know.

jujumaman · 13/02/2009 10:19

newqueen

Better for your blood pressure not to know.

Kerala -this is what is wrong with Bristol.

"its "primitive" inhabitants keep Cusk awake at night with their "demoniacal groaning . . . from a region that outlay human identity", (plus its port used to be used by slave traders)

What a dummy mummy you must be, not to have picked up on this

see that La Cusk is touting her divorce around the Graun / Torygraph. I'd love to hear her husband's side of it - she's lucky he didn't murder her!
