Austerity Britain

Book token to buy more books!

I buy loads of books all the time anyway, so people don't tend to buy for me.

NancysGarden: I have both TSOMW & TBITSP and was probably going to give them to charity. Do you want them?

MrsMuddle · 28/12/2008 22:15

The Siege of Krishnapur, but the writing is tiny! It took me ages to read two pages last night.

World Without End - Ken Follet (the "sequel" to Pillars of the Earth)
and
The Power of Now --Eckhardt Tolle

Started both, and have been enjoying immensely!!
I ususally never get books either, but we were in Borders on Christmas Eve amd I said "oooh, I've been wanting this book (Follett one) and my DH panick shopped while I got some coffee

Only in America - Matt Frei
Larkrise to Candleford- Flora Thompson
The World According to Bertie - Alexander McCall Smith
Excellent Women - Barbara Pym
Children's Minds - Margaret Donaldson
The Victorians - A.N.Wilson
The End of an Error - Mameve Medwed
Stories from the Vinyl Cafe and Vinyl Cafe Diaries - Stuart McLean

Phew - didn't I do well?! I'm feeling incredibly guilty as dh (who is very into books - he used to have a bookshop) only got 3 books I'll have to do better when it is his birthday!

Sphil - "Beadle The Bard" was my Christmas Eve present to myself and I read it in the bath once the girls were in bed. I really enjoyed it, mainly because of "Dumbledore's" notes about each story.

I am going into town tomorrow to try and find a coat but am half hoping that I don't find one so that I can spend my Christmas money from mil on books instead! I really fancy a huge new cookery book and some classics.

sphil · 30/12/2008 20:46

Haven't started it yet - Dawn French has my attention atm - but looking forward to it. Reading in the bath is my guilty pleasure - while all hell breaks loose downstairs

None and am really gutted.

ABudafulSightWereHappyTonight · 04/01/2009 18:28

None.

Bought myself "The Reader" and the new Kate Atkinson one at the airport on New Year's Day though to make up for it. I also have a self imposed ban on book buying till I have read everything on the unread shelf in the spare room and everything on the cluttered "books I have read but want to read again" shelf in the study!

FlossieT - what a great DS you have you will love Before Green Gables.
I got The Age of Wonders by Richard Holmes and Empire by Niall Ferguson.
I also got Beadle the Bard from DD1, because she wants to read it herself!
I did NOT get Pageturner's DH's book which I really wanted, but have left it on my Amazon wishlist as my birthday is not far away.
