Fantasy recommendations?

I love reading all sorts of books, but my favourites are GOOD fantasy. The problem is that a lot of fantasy is just tripe. Like the authors thought 'I know - Dragons, unicorns, elves and a long journey - hey presto! I'm the next Tolkien' So what would people recommend?
And while I'm here I'll take some time to pimp my favourite fantasy series - Steven Erikson's 'Malazan Book of the Fallen' is absolutely the most amazing fantasy I've ever read, what is everyone else into?

EPPM - I tried reading Hyperion once, and would agree that it leans more towards sci-fi than fantasy. Maybe I should try it again, as sometimes I don't get on with a book, but when I read it again later I love it (as was the case with the Eyre Affair)

Oh the Sparrow is so sad! Really different and thought provoking. Quite old fashioned sci/fi really (in a good way). I really liked the first Ender, but felt that it was stand alone, so didn't read any more. Neverland is fantastic, but very dense. You need some really good reading time for it (ands to read all four in a row, I think too). I might get American Gods. I wasn't that impressed with Coraline and his short stories are a little too disturbing for me

nooka have you read the sequel?
It explains all sorts of things that happened in the sparrow- really good too!
American Gods blew me away when I read it.
I spent all weekend reading... and raced to my friend monday morning (who reads similar stuff) only to find him bursting to tell me about a fabulous book he'd spent all weekend reading...

Not yet. I always look for the sequel in bookshops, but forget when I'm ordering online (usually I like to browse before buying).

Pavlov you're talking abour Ender's Game, floowed by Speaker for the dead, Xenocide, and then Children of the mind, so just 4 books.

There's an alternative set, starting with Ender's Shadow, which follows most of the action in Ender's Game but from a different perspective (very cool) and then carries on with what happens on Earth afterwards.
