Hi y'all!
What is the difference between the
Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier
and
Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier and Sally Beauman?

Which one should i read?

Never come across the second. Go for the first.

peasholme · 16/12/2008 10:25

Yeah, the first. The second is a modern "prequel" and not a patch on the original.

janeite · 16/12/2008 16:10

"Rebecca's Tale" is by Sally Beauman and it is rubbish (I read it last week); so I suspect "Rebecca" by Sally Beauman would also be rubbish.

"Rebecca" by Daphe Du M.. is v good.

ScottishMummy · 16/12/2008 16:15

LadyPenelope · 16/12/2008 16:22

Rebecca one of best books I read this year ... I loved it. Def the D du M one.

LIZS · 16/12/2008 16:33

Daphne du Maurier's original fab , Sally Beauman's Rebecca's Tale implausible and shite !

BeckyBendyLegs · 17/12/2008 21:59

Oooh I thought this thread was calling me!

I've read teh DduM one but never heard of the other. I loved it.

snoringnightmare · 17/12/2008 22:02

Rebecca by D Du M. Brilliant.

I've read Mrs. De Winter by Sally Beauman and it was ok but not read Rebecca by her. Wouldn't bother tbh. What's the point when the original is absolutely fantastic.

ChippyMyrrhton · 17/12/2008 22:07

Read the original. And then read anything else by DdM that you can get your hands on - My Cousin Rachel, Frenchman's Creek, Jamaica Inn, The Glassblowers, Don't Look Now, The Birds etc etc.

Gorionine · 17/12/2008 22:08

I loved the one By Daphne du Maurier. It was the fist book I read in English (I grew up in Switzerland). Hands up for our teacher who chose such as gripping story for us.

blueshoes · 17/12/2008 22:43

yes, read the original

maamajullah · 18/12/2008 14:10

Thanks y'all! I'll def get the original.

House on the Strand is another good one. Hope you enjoy them.

JackieNoCribForABed · 19/12/2008 19:21

One of my favourite books too. . Don't know the Sally Beauman one though.

christmasteafortwo · 19/12/2008 19:24

Every woman should read 'Rebecca' it teaches us so much about ourselves!

Don't start reading on a work night - once you start reading it is morning light before you know it!

JackieNoCribForABed · 19/12/2008 19:27

And be prepared for it to make you want to buy stationery (or is that just me, with the description of Rebecca's desk ?)

lizandlulu · 19/12/2008 19:36

it sounds good, what is it about?

RhinestoneReindeerHerder · 19/12/2008 19:40
