Are these books supposed to complement each other - as I believe my choices do - or just be good?

ahundredtimes · 23/10/2008 14:24

American Pastoral is a ruddy good book.

ahundredtimes · 23/10/2008 14:25

MyEye's books go together well too.

I think that should be the game. [tricky]

VintageGardenia · 23/10/2008 14:27

Cold Comfort Farm - Stella Gibbons
Memoir - John McGahern

GColdtimer · 23/10/2008 14:29

zippitippitoes · 23/10/2008 14:31

yes books which have some sort of correspondence with each would be interesting

GColdtimer · 23/10/2008 14:32

ahundredtimes · 23/10/2008 14:33

YES! Twofalls they do, I agree.

Oh it would be a gooood game Seeker, and it'd be good to read them together I think. [phones Tillybookclub]

lilibet · 23/10/2008 14:41

Ooooh interesting

(puts thinking cap on)

ahundredtimes · 23/10/2008 14:42

Maybe people have done it without realizing?

Am going to check.

Lotster · 23/10/2008 14:46

Oh, mine are already done, just want to second The Time Traveller's Wife; beautiful, moving book.

If you like friendship tales, The Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood is wonderful. Mine is dog eared after being read by friends and their mums too!

ahundredtimes · 23/10/2008 14:46

[realizes is at a disadvantage never having read Kite Runner or 1000 suns]

How about - and they still have to ones you think everyone should read, yes?

The Woman in White
Case Histories

or

Gullivers Travels
Cloud Atlas

Classic - Catch 22

Another vote for The Secret History in the Modern category. This one got me back into reading again after years of avoiding books.

lilibet · 23/10/2008 14:50

ok - a very obvious one

The Hours - Michael Cunningham

and

Mrs Dalloway - Virginia Woolf

ohdearwhatamess · 23/10/2008 14:50

Anna Karenin
Accidental Tourist

ahundredtimes · 23/10/2008 14:52

Any volume of short stories - William Trevor

lilibet · 23/10/2008 14:55

Loved it - one of the few books that I can stand as a film.

Brideshead Revisited anyone? [boak]

lionheart · 23/10/2008 14:56

Frankenstein and Beloved.

Tillyscoutsmum · 23/10/2008 15:05

No real correlation though ...

slim22 · 23/10/2008 15:07

Iliad& Odysseus
Ulysses

seeker · 23/10/2008 17:17

I hadn't thought of them correlating in some way - but it does make for a better game. I'll have to think of another two now!
