Bleeding Heart Square

"Bleeding Heart Square" by Andrew Taylor - has anybody read it? I loved "The American Boy" and was really looking forward to this and I didn't like it. An old woman has gone missing and I'm afraid I just didn't care - I just kept thinking, serves her right. Did I miss something profound about it or was it really just not very good?

Hi Janeite, sorry I think I recommended it to you!
I didn't enjoy it as much as other Andrew Taylor novels, partic Lydmouth Series, and I loved The American Boy,but I am a fan of that era,1930'3/world war two,so it appealed to me from that angle.
Am just readind The Private Patient by P.D James and enjoying it.

It's okay, I'm not blaming you (honestly!). I read one of the Lydmouth series and didn't like that either. I loved "The American Boy" largely because of the setting and the fact that it reminded me a bit of Arthur Conan Doyle's writing.

I don't think I'll bother with any more of his. I can't get on with PD James, sorry!

I've started "What Was Lost" by Catherine O' Flynn and am really enjoying that so far (thanks to EachPeach for that one).

Now you see I didn't get on with that one at all!
I enjoy crime fiction, and especially like some of the period stuff.I think I may have mentioned Philip Kerr to you-he writes a series set in pre and post war Berlin that is fantastic.Ditto David Downing.

Must look out for the Philip Kerr stuff; thanks for reminding me. "What Was Lost" has turned very strange; I loved the first 30 pages or so, with Kate checking out the shopping centre for "criminal types".
