Has anyone read "Out of Breath" by Julie Myerson, and can talk to me about the ending please...

I am a little confused....

Was it really a 'happily ever after' or did Flynn just hallucinate the whole thing while she was in one of her depressed running away periods?

So- no-one on the whole of mn then?

I was a little confused too.

I saw it as the characters were real and were running away but the things that happened in the house were imaginary in a magic sort of way.

Not explaining myself very well am I?

I think it was one of those books where you're not supposed to know if things are real or imaginary.

Julie Myerson seems to use this sort of device quite a lot when writing.

Yes, I did- though I found it very intense! At one point I had to stop reading and pace myself (end of chapter 4 I think) as I was getting too scared about something happening to them - I never used to be like that before children!

I am interested you thought they were all real- the ending just seemed a little too neat- the way they all were looked after, and Mouse adopted in record time- that just doesn't happen, which is why I wondered if Flynn had imagined whole thing.

I will definitely be reading something else by her- any recommendations for next please?

Yeah - The ending was too neat. and I felt the same about the children too!

Well - i like her books but they do all seem to morph into one.

'Something might happen" is good. Actually there's quite a bit about death in it so only read if you are feeling up to it.

There's two which I muddle up. One is called "the story of you" and the other is "sleepwalking".

she seems to explore the same themes over and over such as affairs/childbirth/ghost/death and she writes quite openly about sex.

I think I've read nearly all of her books as I like the way they are written although the plots are a bit ambiguous.

waffling about books is always good imo!

Am 26weeks pg, so it might have been the hormones stopping me reading- was too too scared about 'Jez'!

I'll see what they have in the library I think.

If you are pregnant don't read "something might happen'

I know this will make you more curious but I would have been a blubbering hormonal wreck if I'd read this.

Vulgar i did read Something Might Happen while pregnant - felt like I was being dragged through all those emotions re the bit at the end.

Well written, compulsively readable, but bloody bleak.
