I finished this a few weeks back and have been pleased to see that other people have read it too. It wasn't my book group read - just finished Small Island for that, but it waqs recommended by someone at book group. What did everyone think of it. I have read some fantastic reviews and although I enjoyed it, I wouldn't go over the top with praise. I felt that the ending was too ambiguous - how did he die? I did break my heart at the bit with his daughter.

Just resurrecting this to say that I have just finished this book and loved it. Will be handing it round all my friends to read now

What struck me was how important every moment became to him as soon as he knew when he would die. It made me realise that although many people say that we should live each day as if its our last, in practice so few people actually achieve this.

Has made me more determined not to let time drift by frittering it on unimportant banal stuff

Hi all! I love the book too, and was ok with the end, But was frustrated with how much the feelings of Gomez for Clare comes up and we never learn more about it... Was anyone else curious to knowhy did hemarried charisse and why Clare is always willing to be around him, even though she knows he likes her?

sorrel · 23/06/2005 10:07

I always wondered about Gomez too Lua. Bit of a dog in a manger. Always felt very sorry for Charisse knowing that he had 'settled' for her.
