Need a couple of suggestions for bookgroup please my lovelies. Can't let the fact that I have DTs been seen as a hindrance to my book browsing. We've just read Andrea Levy's Small Island and the Victorian House (interesting but not light or easy). So, can you help? Please?

Thank you from a lazy, should've got my act together me!

The Underground Man - Mick Jackson. FInally got around to reading it after putting it off for years. Loved it to bits. It's quite short so good for book groups!

snafu · 01/03/2005 19:03

Oh, does it have to be recently published?

MummytoSteven · 01/03/2005 19:04

Oranges are not the Only Fruit - we all loved it at our bookgroup

The Sixth Lamentation by William Broderick - not that light but very good

Just read 'the time traveller's wife' by ? Audrey Niffeneger and 'The American Boy' by can't remember but could look it up. Both so good I can't believe it. Apparently both were recommended by Richard and Judy. Almost enough to make me think of watching their programme...

You girlies are quick. I'm writing the suggestions down, they're a picky lot. We were considering the Time Traveller's Wife. Any good?

At the risk of boring everyone on here witless banging on about it again I would suggest The Way the Crow Flies . I'm reading The Diary of an Ordinary Woman at the moment which is surprisingly gripping. I also recently read Windfalls (although in paperback!) which was harrowing but very absorbing. Any good?

light - the shopaholic series
heavy but I love it the age of reason JP Sartre (sp)
also good Zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance by Robert M Pirsig ( i cried - very moving)

snafu · 01/03/2005 19:07

Yes you can, tamum

spykid · 01/03/2005 19:07

ooh, liked diary of ow too, like all Margaret F in fact

tamum · 01/03/2005 19:07

You could also impress them by pointing out that you know someone who knows Mick Jackson's brother? (no, maybe not )

Miaou · 01/03/2005 19:07

How about the Bonesetter's Daughter by Amy Tan? Just reading it at the moment and I think there is a lot to tease out of it.

tamum · 01/03/2005 19:08

Thanks snafu

MunchedTooManyMarsLady · 01/03/2005 19:08

Not too light please, it's just that the Victorian House was a bit like wading through treacle. We don't mind a good solid read.
