northernrefugee39 · 28/06/2008 16:58

I got through it, but it was a spoiler for me.not as good as the hype. Glad I'd finished it in a way.
And can't talk about it much because I forgot most of it.

sorry to all those that enjoyed it. I too, like northernrefugee, have forgotten most it.

What do you mean by spoilers by the way?

Flamesparrow · 03/07/2008 16:43

Spoilers are when people say what happens in the book... like you did

OP posts:
Spaceman · 03/07/2008 16:49

Oh sh*t. Sorry all.
Ummmmm it's a great book and everyone should read it. There.

oopsadaisyangel · 03/07/2008 16:51

I loved it but then again I love trashy novels

oggsfrog · 03/07/2008 16:54

I absolutely loved the book.
I cried at intervals throughout it and blubbed buckets at the end.
I also cried buckets at Under The Skin by Michel Faber.
God, I love a good read

Flamesparrow · 03/07/2008 17:00

Lol Spaceman - I did love the way you asked afterwards If you press the red ! at the end of your post, you can ask em to delete it. The spoiler warngin thread containing spoilers is a bit weird

Thanks for the tip. I've just done that. Don't want to ruin it for anyone!!!!

EmmyLou · 03/07/2008 17:21

It's odd. When I read it, I found it interesting but contrived with irritating bits that really got on my nerves. I think trying to 'organise' the time travel concept in my mind disracted me from the story.

Two years after reading it, parts have really stayed with me - very strong images spring to mind when I think about it, and now I'm at the stage where I would really love to read it again.

Nagapie · 03/07/2008 17:32

Emmylou - I have just reserved the book at our local library so I can remind myself why I hated it/was so dismissive of the book...

I feel like reading it again knowing how many people seem to have hated it!

OP posts:
plumandolive · 03/07/2008 18:28

I thought it was just me who disliked it. I read it at around the same time as The Lovely bones, and couldn't see what all the hype was around that either.

IpreferNadal · 03/07/2008 18:37

Thought Lovely Bones was good - except last bits. HATED what i did manage to read of Time Travellers Wife.

EmmyLou · 05/07/2008 23:16

Would read TTW anytime over The Lovely Bones, but then I tend to avoid thrillers and novels with reverberations of Silent Witness. I remember nothing optimistic about The Lovely Bones - crawling into cellars and rubbish dumps yes, but no olive branch type hint at anything life affirming.

But am I remembering correctly?

Or am I just a plot-wimp?

Flibbertyjibbet · 05/07/2008 23:24

Ok does anyone want my copy of the Time Travellers Wife ffp?
I don't usually read fiction but picked it up in the charity shop, can't get past the first chapter and have no intention of trying, as too many people on here have said its dire.
Too much shimmering and glimmering is the usually comment about it.

EmmyLou · 05/07/2008 23:32

Flibbertyjibbert - it's not dire! It's definitely flawed, but parts are by turns interesting, touching and clever.

LobstersLass · 05/07/2008 23:49

I rather enjoyed it.
It's not the best book I've ever read, but I thought it was lovely.
