I’ve just finished this! How far along are you? Don’t want to spoil it for you but desperate to talk to someone about it!

Also just finished .
I loved the premise and enjoyed it right up to almost the end.

Yeah I still don’t know how I felt about the ending. I loved the first 80% of the book I would say. Was hoping for something else at the end but not entirely sure what!

I was so unsure towards the end of it but the ending actually sealed the deal for me after all that. Thoroughly enjoyed it

I really liked it, it seemed a very believable premise for an account and the road Yesteryear and imagine there are people out there making those choices

I am still thinking about this book, but also still not sure if I actually liked it! It reminded me a bit of the movie The Village by M Night Shyalaman in terms of the twist.

Really enjoyed this - was worried where it would end to marry up the two timelines but actually thought it was a clever ending as grounded it in reality. I also found it really darkly funny, she’s a great character.

Ooh, I’ve just read the sample on kindle. Might buy the hardback later today. My local Waterstones is promoting it. I like the cover (shallow). I keep thinking of the Ballerina Farm woman 😁

Yes!!! I was picturing ballerina farm the whole way through the book!

i thought the real darkness in her character was great. Also lots of versions of womanhood and great seeing lots of strong young women characters too

Also just finished this yesterday, loved it! Couldn't wait to see how it would end!

littlebilliie · 11/05/2026 00:14

I was reading that a common dislike is the main character as they couldn’t like her. I loved that she was unlikable and unpleasant

LOVED IT. I was trying to guess what the hell was going on and thought I’d worked it out but the actual ending was better than I’d imagined. Genius. It made me laugh out loud several times. She is deliciously awful. It’s absolutely scathing yet so much pathos at the end. Will never see a slinky in the same way! 🍆

Just finished the audio book. It's the first audio book (outside of children's literature) that I've ever listened to and I was gripped. I loved the instagram section and the pioneering and I was hoping the ending wouldn't be some crazy unbelievable gimmicky twist.
@Judystilldreamsofhorses I was praying it wasn't going to wind up like the Village! That has to be one of the worst twists in the history of cinema - that and Life of David Gray.
Without giving anything away, I was pretty satisfied with the conclusion. I would have liked more moments of insight into the children's lives, and the condition of the animals. Natalie was clearly completely emotionally absent as a parent, and Caleb was in incompetent farmer, but I wanted a a few more flashes of reality cutting through her warped perception.

I'm struggling my way through this.

Why does every other chapter turn into a soft p0rn Mills & Boon style graphic description. It's getting old....

Really interesting concept for a story but the smutty sex descriptions are putting me off. They don't add anything.
