Can you suggest some books for my 15 yo DD? She has read Little Women, Pride and Prejudice, Wuthering Heights and is now about to start Jane Eyre.

Sense and Sensibility? Other authors?
Is Anne of Green Gables too young for her?

She would be reading them in translation in Spanish so nothing too obscure.

What about some magic realism? Garcia Marquez in the original? Like water for Chocolate and the House of Spirits? Or Midnight's Children, Life of Pi?

It's been a while since I read them though so have forgotten if there are any bits that aren't suitable for 15yo...

Not the classics but the two books I adored as a young woman and reread are

House of Spirits by Isabel Allende - magical realism and political upheaval and the powers of grandmothers. Actually missed the characters when I finished that book!

The Robber Bride and Cats Eye by Margaret Atwoood.- explains female betrayal

Dd2 and I also love the Ya Ya Sisterhood books if she wants something a little lighter but still excellent.

Has anyone mentioned Anna Karenin? Blew me away in my early 20s ( I did skip the sections on farming though) but the ending packs a punch.

I admit I have struggled with dickens and given up on a few but read Nicholas Nickleby last year and finished it and did enjoy it so maybe that’s a slightly more accessible one?

Has anyone mentioned Doctor Thorne? That's a wonderful book.

A pp mentioned Anna Karenina which I agree your dd might like as I loved it when I was her age.

Also, Spring Torrents by Turgenev

Edited for typo

If she likes historical content Phillipa Gregory is a good start. Also Katherine by Anya Seton. , novel/biography of Katherine Swinford. Medieval history fascinates me and it is a good introduction to European history because of the political marriages between Spain, Portugal and England. Portugal has never been at war with England because of our royal families connections.
I loved Vsnity Fair and anything by Jane Austin. I have the complete works and regularly revisit it. My favourite film is Pride and Prejudice with Keira Knightly.
Just finished binge watching “The other Bennet sister”.
A more modern unsung classic is Testament of Youth by Vera Britten. Vera was only sixteen at the start of the book.

I loved Anya Seton's books. I read Avalon when I was 11 or 12, then Kathryn, Dragonwyk and My Theodosia. This thread has made me want to revisit some old favourites.

How about Jane Austen's Northanger Abbey, which I think is Austen's youngest heroine, about your daughter's age?

My suggestion is Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell - there is also a wonderful book of short stories by the same author/set in the same universe - the ladies of grace adieu. Agree with Rebecca and Jamaica Inn. Northanger Abbey if she hasn’t already. Dracula. The Bell jar. Margaret Atwood maybe? Or Isabel Allende.
