If I like Ilona Andrews who else might I like?

Just that really!

I love their books (husband and wife team) does anyone have any recommendations for urban fantasy type books? Female main character preferred but not essential!

In return I'd recommend Patricia Briggs, Ben Aaronovitch (the audio books are narrated beautifully by Kobna Holbrook-Smith), Lauretta Hignette and Charlotte E English.

Larissa Ione - "Demonica" series.

I love Ilona Andrews and some of the authors you mentioned and also like Charlaine Harris or TA White for a less known author.

Try Simon R Green with his Hawk and Fisher series - husband and wife sword and sorcery. Abebooks.co.uk is good for him.

Have you read Ilona Andrews’ Hidden Legacy series? I only ask because they just recently released a surprise book that follows two of the super-fun-but-minor characters from the original trilogy (well, two human characters and a few animal characters).

Have you read the Harry Dresden books? They’re considered essential to a lot of people who love urban fantasy.

Oh!!! But the very, very BEST series if you love Ilona Andrews and urban fantasy has to be Seanan Mcguire’s October Daye series. I think you’ll really like it; the first book is Rosemary and Rue. I would also recommend her InCryptid series about a family of modern cryptozoologists trying to study cryptids AND keep them safe from a shadowy organization of monster hunters who don’t care if the cryptids in question are innocent animals OR have human-level intelligence. The good guys are very good and the bad guys are very “kill them all and let God sort them out”; I think zealots make for really “good” villains, because they’re so deliciously evil and self-righteous.

TA White - her series are all a little different (all fantasy though). I love them. And find her writing very polished. I waded through so much crap writing from self published authors before I discovered her last year. My favourite series is Aileen Travers.

Im currently reading the Alice Worth series by Lisa Edmonds about a mage and enjoying it. Up to book 7 of 9.

I'd like to thanks folks too! I'm another big Ilona Andrews fan and I've just ordered a couple of Donna Augustine to try and the first three October Daye books. (Despite promising myself mentally I'd finish all my 'to be read' books before ordering more)

😁

On Donna Augustine any recommendations on where to start? (Also read all the Ilona Andrews) separate recommendation for Lisa shearin’s ‘raine Benares’ series

lizzyBennet08 · 25/03/2026 20:55

On the Donna Augustine. The wyrd blood or the whimsy witch series are both really good. The Ollie Witt series also excellent. They tend to be max 4 books long which I tend to prefer .

some great other recommendations here!
