I am trying to find books for my mum. I have found a few that she liked. Dilly Court. She seems to favour 19th century ones about mills, canals etc. She is recovering from eye op, hence audio.

Suggestions greatly appreciated. TIA

It's not the genre you mentioned but I absolutely loved the audiobook of Small Bomb at Dimperley. It's a lovely story set just after WWII - romance, humour and just generally enjoyable.

You could try The Morland dynasty series by Cynthia Harrod Eagles. It follows the fortunes of a family from the middle ages to the eve of WW2. It has 35 books in the series so if she likes them, she's sorted! The first one is called The Founding.

Philipa Gregory is the queen of historical fiction!

This is a fabulous series and will keep her going for ages if your mum likes it. Well researched and well drawn characters that really get you involved.
I have all 36 books (not audio though) and love them.
CHE also writes other historical saga series and I love her Homes Fires series too which is about six books long and set around WW1.
Recently bought her Ashmore Castle series too.

@GloiredeDijon I am so glad to 'meet' you as I have no one in real life who has even heard of the series! I spent the whole of last year reading the Morlands from start to finish and I recommend them every chance I get.

Lovely to meet you too!

I agree CHE isn’t as well known as she should be.

I was so excited when the last book in the Morland Dynasty “The Gathering Storm” appeared as I had thought she had stopped writing about the family and I needed to know what happened.

Thanks for the suggestions. I’ll look into them.
