I need a new audiobook ๐Ÿ˜€

I like them long, like 30 hours long, bonus points if itโ€™s part of a series I can get in to.

have recently read/listened to Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, Strike collection, Fourth Wing collection, all of the Sarah J Mass, The Goldfinch, things like that

thanks!

I recently listened to Swan Song which was quite long but really good.

MsPug · 08/03/2026 17:45

The nightingale Kristin Hannah is about a million hours

SydneyPear · 08/03/2026 17:49

โ€˜The Martianโ€™ or โ€˜Project Hail Maryโ€™. Also another
vote for the biggie Stephen Kings! And the other two Donna Tartt novels (โ€˜The Little Friendโ€™ is my favourite.)

Karistyleaftea · 08/03/2026 17:51

Strike series JK Rowling .
Robert Glenister narrates incredibly well, one of my absolute favourites.
Jodie Taylor's Chronicles of St Mary's are excellent too, Zara Ramm another fab narrator.
Stephen King books are incredible but I always read them so not much to contribute on the audio, except to say that Duma Key narrated by John Slattery is wonderful.
Happy listening.

I am Pilgrim and the the next one. Can't remember what it's called and who by!

PaschaPenny · 08/03/2026 17:56

OrsolaRosso · 08/03/2026 11:17

How about The Seven Sisters series by Lucinda Riley?

I was going to recommend this too - great series.

babasaclover · 08/03/2026 17:59

Stephen kings are regularly 16 hours long.

TheCountessofLocksley · 08/03/2026 18:04

@AudiobookListenergood to know Iโ€™ve got the best yet to come. Think it will be my summer listen (am hoping for some long sunny days in the garden)

By Terry Hayes. I Am Pilgrim is fantastic.

The other one is The Year Of The Locust, also well worth a read/listen but be prepared for a very strange detour about 2/3rds of the way in.

Also recommend Demon Copperhead if you've not read that.

Celiathebanshee · 08/03/2026 19:17

Wolf hall, read brilliantly by Ben Miles

MsRosewater · 08/03/2026 19:23

Came to suggest โ€˜the covenant of waterโ€™ - it s excellent. Also th poison wood bible.

And, try - the Bee Sting and/or Skippy Dies by Paul Murray . Iโ€™ve not checked the actual duration but (as a Donna Tart fan) they were immersive and long

AdarajamesAgain · 08/03/2026 19:48

I had the whole of Dragon Riders from Pern by Anne McCaffery on audio novel, took weeks to get through them all!
Lots of the apocalypse type omnibus on audible are 60+ hours

Xiaoxiong · 08/03/2026 20:42

I much prefer Victorian novels read aloud than on the page - if Little Women is any guide, I think they were written to be read aloud to the family in instalments around the fire in the evening so it makes sense that they're more enjoyable as audiobooks.

I have suggested these before, but Miriam Margolyes reading Dickens on Audible is BRILLIANT. Bleak House is 43 hours and 12 minutes of awesomeness and she does all the voices too.

Once you find a good narrator you can "follow" them through other books. I loved Timothy West reading Barchester Towers (19h06min) so I listened to all the Trollopes he narrates, which made many hours of commuting, cooking and housework much more enjoyable.

Ineffable23 · 08/03/2026 21:00

Sherlock Holmes, the definitive collection, read by Stephen Fry. 71 hours long.

NinetyNineRedBalloonsGoByAgain · 08/03/2026 21:51

Any Philpa Gregory - 18+ hours per novel, historical fiction and thereโ€™s loads in a series!

Burntt · 08/03/2026 22:13

I love all the ones you listed OP. Will be adding some new books to my library from this thread.

My suggestion would be โ€˜he who fights with monstersโ€™ 13 books and counting.

Eragon. Itโ€™s dragons and coming of age 16.5 hours first book but the last is 31.5

the name of the wind. Absolutely amazing books. But there are inly 2 of the 3 published and itโ€™s like game of thrones not sure the series will ever be finished. Very frustrating

anything by Brandon Sanderson. Mistborn is a good series (25 hours a book). Stormlight archive a close second- 25 hours then over 50 for later books

another brilliant author is Trudi Canavan. Thiefโ€™s magic- millenniums rule series. 17/18 hours a book. Age of the 5 series similar length. Her first series the magicians guild much shorter and the first couple books read as though for a younger audience but the final book then prequel book and following series in the world less teen.

very different genre but โ€˜pillars of the earthโ€™ is something like 50 hours. No magic but if you like game of thrones itโ€™s similar but historical fiction, excellent characters different storylines running at once. Strong intelligent females overcome hardship. First in the series (although there is a prequel but pillars of the earth and the second book world without end are the best) TW nasty rape scene in it though but if you can cope with game of thrones itโ€™s manageable.

robert Galbraith books are also long. Not fantasy. Private investigator. Some nasty crimes but excellent books.

much shorter but the huger games by Susan Collins , divergent by Veronica Roth and the thief by Megan Whalen turner. All the fantasy genre and very good first books in series

PagesAndTea · 08/03/2026 22:14

Riders by Jilly Cooper is around 30 hours, as is the sequel Rivals. I listened to both of them - the American accent so bad itโ€™s quite funny. Very easy listening when youโ€™re driving etc!

CinnamonSweet73 · 08/03/2026 22:17

Another vote for Stephen King - I don't think 11/22/63 has been mentioned, that kept me enthralled!

Feargalthecat · 08/03/2026 22:25

The Heartโ€™s Invisible Furies
The Bee Sting
and yes Stephen King has some brilliant long listens I loved The Stand 11/22/63 and Fairytale.

DoAWheelie · 08/03/2026 22:30

Dungeon Crawler Carl series starts out short-ish but by the 7th book it's 28 hours. There is an 8th book out soon and at least two more to follow.

Currently it's over 140 hours and climbing. One of the best series I've read in years and I've barely stopped thinking about it since I first started it a year ago.

Santasbigredbobblehat · 08/03/2026 22:36

Pillars of the Earth.
CJ Swanson.
Strike books.
The Childrenโ€™s Book or Possession by AS Byatt.

OllyBJolly · 08/03/2026 22:41

My Name is Barbra - Barbra Streisand's autobiography read by Barbra. 48 hours long and really interesting and entertaining.

Mathsbabe · 08/03/2026 22:51

The Forsyth Saga. It is very long but you need to use about 4 credits to get them all. It was brilliant

outerspacepotato · 09/03/2026 00:52

Historical fiction, the Lymond Chronicles by Dorothy Dunnett. 6 books, each over 20 hours. Her other series, The House of Niccolo, has 8 books at 23 to 30 hours each and I like it better.

The Mars Trilogy by Kim Stanley Robinson clocks in around 82 hours if you like fairly hard scifi.

AcceptableAtADanceInvaluableInAShipwreck · 09/03/2026 00:57

The whole Wolf Hall trilogy is about 30h, I think, available on Audible.
