Can I have suggestions for books for my book group, please? We're not in the UK and I'm not too au fait with the latest UK must-reads. The books must be available in paperback. TIA.

The favourites in mine have been

The Woman in White
The Soldier's Return
Cold Comfort Farm
Noughts and Crosses
Round Ireland with a Fridge
I Capture the Castle

We have just read The Scapegoat by Daphne du Maurier which was intersting and provoked a lot of discussion - how would you tell if an idential person came in your husband's place?

We are also trying to read more non-fiction and next month are all going to nominate a fiction and non fiction book to be put in a tub and one drawn out each month.

My choices are going to be a historical novel about Lady Jane Grey by Alison Weir and Between Silk and Cyanide by Leo Marks about codebreakers in WWII - better than it sounds!

newbooks have been advertising in the Grauniad Review quite a bit recently. I sent off for their advertised free issue, which did have some pieces worth reading (including an interview with Jonathan Coe, for all you fans), albeit not enough to make me want to subscribe.

It's specifically aimed at reading groups so is probably worth a look - you can download PDFs of some recent issues from the site. One thing that looked quite interesting is they have reader reviews of more than just their featured titles that give a star rating for both personal recommendation and as a "book group" book.
