Those of you who have read the book , what conclusion have you come to? Personally what will you do about it? For me it’s a real eye opener

I'd recommend getting a breadmaker if you can. Once you're in the swing of it, it doesn't take long.

A bread maker has been a game changer here. Only DH has sliced white anymore... The kids complain it sticks to their teeth and I think it has a weird taste.

@Goldpanther I find that really interesting, how our tastes develop and affect what we reach for.

I did have a breadmaker once. Could do with getting one again - the only shop-bought bread I like is Jackson's tiger bread. I love seedy, granary type but the shop-bought are all slightly disappointing, altho I still buy it.

I do have one but there are six (3 sporty teens) of us here, and we get through a lot of bread.I just don't seem to have the energy to do it! When they all bugger off I'll start!

I'm definitely a hand baker. That doesn't take long either. As someone once remarked, it takes time but it doesn't take your time. While it's fermenting / proving / baking you can be doing something else - the bit that needs your attention takes up certainly no more than half an hour all told. I bake my own bread (wholemeal and ciabatta), pizza bases, hot cross buns...

The main take out for me was the way the corporations protect themselves and have tentacles reaching into all sorts of things like health boards, government bodies, food charities etc. and where scientists get away with calling themselves independent in research journals and articles but often a bit of digging comes up with some food corporation money, input or affiliation. They really are everywhere!
