@dolly96 Had a great thread in this amazing book, and writing talent, that got sidetracked all over the place by issues and had to be deleted.

”Elis” isn’t about issues, but rather about my favourite thing, as in:
”Here is some stuff from life, see if it is any use to you and what you make of it” but with a unique rider of “however to make it more interesting…” and a stellar talent.

Here is the reason why I think you should read Elis:
Let me set the scene for you:
I am autistic with CPTSD all over the place. I have pretty much always lived as a recluse mostly because being being around people totally blind to their non-verbal reactions and intentions causes intolerable levels of stress. The only way I can be in a public ward, even for a day, is heavily sedated.
l woke up from something called a Transurethral Resection of a Bladder Tumor, that nobody ever thought would biopsy as benign (for one thing it looked WAY too much like Donald J you-know-who, seriously, to be harmless).
I also woke up fitted with a catheter that, even if ALL THE ABOVE did not exist would still be not-so-subtle torture.
I saw this promoted and bought it to read as a chore, to see what it was about.
like many autistics I rarely laugh, except to give a polite response.

Within 10 minutes I was laughing out loud in a public ward and trying to “keep it down” even though the book is also very raw and real.

This is also why I think the book is too good to waste on pushing any issue or personal opinion, including my own.

So I will stop here.

I read the book after reading that thread and loved it.

Yeah, that thread was a bit screwy, not gonna lie. Think it was better it was deleted as I think it would put people off reading the book.

The book's definitely worth reading if you wanna understand prostitution, but it's very dark.

That's all I'll say this time. Don't wanna make several posts and see them all go bye bye again.

This is such an important book and should be read by everyone concerned with women's rights, as the women in prostitution are often the canaries in the coal mine when it comes to misogyny and violence against women.

The OP is right to highlight the humour in the book, but her story is a serious one that we can all learn from.

The Irish website Gript recently did a detailed review of the book. Whatever you might think of Gript itself, this article is a very fair summary of the book and the subject it covers.

The book has sparked off a discussion on Reddit.
